RIP Tulip

I have sad news to report today.  I had to put my last kitty, Tulip to sleep.  She was 16 years old and had gotten quite skinny lately.  For the last week she has been having quite a few "accidents" outside the litter box, and I think it was because she was too tired to go there.  It has also been taking her quite a long time to finish her food, and for the last 2 days she did not finish it.  So I took her to the vet this morning, and he confirmed my suspicion that she had cancer, and put her to sleep.  She really did not look too happy the last several weeks, so I am glad I was able to notice this and not let it go on for too long.

I will miss the cute rumbly furriness, but I will not miss cleaning up after her.  I have been planning for some time that I would not get any new cats, so I can now say, "No more cats."

I called our pet sitter, so that she could tell her girls about this (I'm sure they will be a little upset) and she was quite surprised.  They took care of her just last weekend, and didn't really notice anything wrong.  This was because they just fed her and went away, and so did not see how slowly she was eating.  I also called my sister in law, Patti, to see if she wanted any of my cat supplies.  To my surprise, she said she is now down to one cat (Ralphie, who is only 2 years old), and thus I think she no longer qualifies to be a "cat lady".  Her 16 year old cat, Murphy, died a year ago, and her 2 14 year old cats, Tubby and Becky (who were brother and sister) died unexpectedly within a week of each other just last month.  Patti is also not planning to get any more cats.  She doesn't want her cats to outlive her.

Hopefully this is not too much of a surprise for Eleanor and Rachel (since I have not called them up to tell them).  I think they both saw how skinny Tulip was getting the last time they were home.
