Working on getting the new tank cycled and livable. It's a 5-gal Minibow, to which I've so far added two banana plants and a tiger lotus. I'm hoping the plants will help accelerate the nitrite spike, since that is how it seemed to work in Prothvar's 1-gal, but perhaps it won't work quite the same with an artificial cycle. Got the tank set back up last night. It's all nice and disinfected, and conditioned, and having its 48 hrs of run-time before aquiring its new occupant. Who shall be a red male betta named Prothvar. I think it's too late. :-( The fungus went from being a little patch on his tail to now he looks like he's almost in a coccoon, lying on the bottom of the tank and barely breathing. I did add MelaFix, but I think it was just too late. I'll be surprised if he makes it to morning.

So I finally caved and got a betta last night. He has this neat triangular 1-gal tank, with a fin-safe filter. Unfortunately, he also has some kind of fungus that has rapidly spread all over him, probably because I didn't transition him slowly enough and overstressed him.
