Yesterday, I spent 3 glorious hours at Hershey Gardens. The information I had read said most people spend about an hour there. It is 23 acres and since where I work is 37 acres, I thought the timing was probably accurate. While answering a comment, I heard the cat dishes I have outside banging around. Sure enough, as I suspected, a raccoon was having a late night snack before returning home for the day. :)

I went outside to put out garbage about a half an hour ago and there was a mighty ruckus as two kittens and three juvenile raccoons exploded out of the small dog house on the front porch and ran in various directions, startled by my presence. It's raining, you see, and apparently my wildlife has learned to share.

Tonight's Casa Colhoun version of Wild Kingdom is the juvenile opossum chowing down on cat food on my front porch. I haven't seen opossums in my yard in quite a while so this little guy is making me quite joyful, something I badly needed after the things that happened today. I've always been a water lover. When I was a child, I'd spent hot summer days in the bath tub, playing with my water toys. I enjoy swimming or hanging out in a pool but I really enjoy the beach. The storm won and our trip to the pow wow was cut short but no before I managed to buy some sandalwood resin, detoxifying tea and some homemade soap. I never get tired seeing raccoons come to my house for cat food. Seeing one climb to the top of a 40 ft tree behind my yard made my heart full.

20 days ago my class was introduced to two small plastic jars containing 10 very tiny caterpillars. Today, 9 gorgeous Painted Lady butterflies were released into the bright warm sunshine as my children counted them and cheered them on. Only 1 out of the 10 didn't make it to adulthood.
