Pow Wow vs. Massive Thunderstorm

Jul 25, 2010 19:32

The storm won and our trip to the pow wow was cut short but no before I managed to buy some sandalwood resin, detoxifying tea and some homemade soap. Also, I took pictures of dinocorns and people who have no respect. I will try to post those pics but we all know I'm horrible about that sort of thing.

In any case, what we saw of the pow wow was uplifting. There were fewer dancers than in past years but the weather was god awful hot. But there were 11 dancers in the tiny tots contest, once as young as 9 months and as Louie, the MC, says, the little ones are the keepers of the tradition. There were a few badly behaved people who couldn't be bothered to stand or remove their hats for the flag song and dance but other than that I didn't see anyone being stupid. The thunderstorm that came was powerful and fast and looked like it would get very nasty very quick. I am grateful for the pow wow and grateful for the rain that pelted me as I left, my belly full of fry bread taco.

joy, thunderstorms, thank you universe, nature
