Just got back from my weekly meeting with Vassilis. He told me it's time to start writing my paper, and finishing figures will come with the writing (especially since as you write you often think of things you want to add in figures). Wow, what a jam-packed week! I left for the Heliophysics Summer School in Boulder, CO last Tuesday and got back today (Thurs.) Jenni picked me up at the airport and so I was home by around 2pm or so, so instead of going into work for a couple hours I stayed home to get some stuff done around here. Mike and I have been keeping quite busy! He arrived late Friday night, and then early Saturday morning we left with HoJin, YunJung, and YunJung's brother for Mountain High Ski Resort! Today we went WHALE WATCHING for Kate's birthday! It was so fun to be out on a boat, and almost instantly after leaving the harbor we found some California grey whales. We followed them up the coast and then they stopped to clean themselves so we just sat there awhile and watched, took photos, and were visited by a multitude of dolphins! I'll ( Read more... )

Yesterday Jenni and I drove up to Mt. High Ski Resort for the "ESSSO ski trip". It ended up being only two other people went (the president--Paul--, and Ben), and they didn't even arrive til that night cuz they planned to stay at the lodge last night and ski today. But anyways ( Read more... )

I have had an amazing weekend. We have off of school today (Veteran's Day), and I have been enjoying not doing any work (although I will probably regret not having started anything yet). Okay...so I hate to admit it...but...Mike was right...When we lived in Sheboygan, he told me that the sound of the waves from Lake Michigan (which is a peasly few blocks from my house) reminded him of growing up and hearing the 405. Thanks to all who have contacted me concerned about my safety regarding the CA fires. Thankfully, UCLA is nestled deep enough within LA that there is no concern about the flames actually reaching here, although the air quality is quite poor due to the smoke. So today I woke up at 6:30 (though I didn't get up til 7), put my swimsuit on and got dressed, made a lunch, and took my roller blades to the bus stop. I took #2 down Wilshire Ave. and got off at 4th street, where I donned my blades and went down to the bike strip along the beach in Santa Monica. So remember the "cool rock" from my last photo update? The one I couldn't find a path to? Well I climbed up the hill by the SSL at Berkeley (instead of down on the Fire Trail) and FOUND IT!
