Here's hoping that all my Canadian friends had a good Canada Day. We spent the day busting our butts trying to catch up on some of the yard-work and gardening here on the farm. We've been here for five years now, and this is the first year that we managed to get a vegetable garden put in. Unfortunately, what it's mostly producing is weeds. ( Read more... )

     The Bank of Canada will be issuing new banknotes starting with the $100 bill in November of 2011.  The new notes will be made of polymer rather than cotton paper, and will feature a number of advanced security features making them extremely difficult to counterfeit.  Here's a blurb from the bank's YouTube account:

Canada has finally achieved its Olympic goal of winning gold on home turf.  Not only did Canada win gold, but they won more gold medals than anyone else, ever, in the Winter Olympics!  14 Gold for Canada, a new world record!

Most people tend to associate Hockey with Canadians, but another popular sport up here is Curling.  Curling is like playing a giant game of Shuffleboard, but you play it on a sheet of ice, throwing heavy "rocks" down the ice and briskly sweeping a broom in front of the rock to make it move faster or slower, and to some degree where you want it ( Read more... )
