Tomorrow is my birthday. Today I got my way cool present - a pale green Toyota Prius. I'm so excited. After two years of looking we finally settled on a vehicle. I test drove it Thursday. I have today off since I worked on Sunday. I slept in, which was lovely. When I got up I opened the windows in the bedroom and master bath upstairs and the living room and kitchen downstairs. The bushes and birch trees near the shop are way out of hand. I keep meaning to chop the lower branches on the tree, but never seem to get to it. When I got home yesterday I decided to go out and do some yard work. Eldred cut the front lawn and I hacked at greenery. I discovered that my upper body strength is almost zip. My Kwan Yin workshop for today was cancelled due to the instructor's illness, so I helped dig a hole instead. I recently joined Upstate Forever. Today was the Rain Gardens 101 event. I went out to the mailbox this afternoon to get the mail. I discovered that one piece belonged to the people across the road. Their mailbox is on our side of the road a ways down. As I wandered past the woods beside our house, I noticed lots and lots of cans, mostly beer cans. Looks like I am going to have to get a bag and de-litter the woods.

Eldred has been stressing lately about not getting home early enough to do any yardwork. Not that he enjoys yardwork. It just needs to be done. I am not enamored of it either. Since the poison ivy incident, I have been even less interested in working in the yard. Today I decided to help reduce his stress level by mowing part of the side yard. It ( Read more... )

Mother Nature gave us a big ole hint Friday night. We finally had some rain, complete with thunder and lightning. Eldred noticed Saturday afternoon that about a third of the huge pear tree had fallen towards the house, narrowly missing the deck. This was strike two. Strike one was during the big ice storm in December. We lost a third of the tree. ( Read more... )
