This storm is bizarre- normally the worst part is north & east of the eye- but in this one that was just rain. Still raining, & it was a noisy night but power still on! The other side of the bay had a lot of power outages, & poor Dauphin Island will not have power before Thursday at the earliest (thanks to that fool sailor)& its causeway is under water so it is cut off, but my area is doing fine- just some flooding here & there.There have been very few ( Read more... )

Made it to my friend's & got the ice, but I misjudged the timing of the bands & the next one hit just as I got back in the car. Luckily was only about 12 blocks from my house & only about 5 blocks were really hairy - the rain comes in solid sheets that block vision completely for a second, then you get a quick view of the road followed by another ( Read more... )

This morning was beautiful- low humidity, nice breeze, relatively cool. By noon it changed- very overcast, hot & heavy. Just feels sullen, ya know? No birdsong at all. Got the limbs cleared from the house & checked the roof- made one important discovery- a tree on the south side by my bedroom is dead, I must get it down before the storm, so that is this morning's project. It is not a big tree, only about 40', & it is straight so it should be easy to lay it where I want it as long as I do it today- the winds will ( Read more... )

We are almost dead center of the cone, so tomorrow I'll go on the roof & trim back any branches that might hit the roof & check for any potential problems. Sunday I'll mow  the front yard(makes it much easier & safer to clear debris) - I mowed the back yesterday. Got the drainage cleared (I cleared it yesterday but with the severity of rain last night I knew there would be more). I checked my reflecting pool last night, it was down by 5 inches, this morning it is overflowing (it is above ground level so none of that is run-off).
