This morning was beautiful- low humidity, nice breeze, relatively cool. By noon it changed- very overcast, hot & heavy. Just feels sullen, ya know? No birdsong at all. Got the yard secured, mowed, door sandbagged, plenty of batteries, stocked up on hurricane essential foods- peanut butter, Cheerios, almond milk (does not have to be refrigerated), some protein bars, & of course chocolate! It is expected to go in west of us which means winds from only 1 direction. NE is the worst place (after the eye) to be in a hurricane but this is a weak one so I mostly am expecting power outage & lots of water ( they are predicting 20+ inches of rain). First real rain band should come by in a couple of hours, then a big break, then another band & gradually the time between bands will decrease. A friend has put some gallon cartons of water in her freezer for me (mine is too small) - I'll go tomorrow morning between bands & get 2 to put in my cooler with milk & some other items so I won't need to open the fridge after the power goes out, hopefully keeping it cool til power is restored. I've turned down the a/c thermostat tonight to get the house cooled so it will be comfy for at least (hopefully more) a day w/o power.
Kitties are relaxed except for Tip, she has been charging around the house chattering. She had a major breakthrough yesterday- she played pattycake with Sebastian! Shan is having a can't hear at all day (easy to tell by vacuuming .If she can hear it she makes a face & leaves the room, it she can't she tries to sit on the vacuum).
Trying to figure out where I can safely hang a feeder for the hummers- I have 2 staying by my front porch, & I know from my previous house that they will need to feed between bands. My sinus is starting to act up- hurricanes always give me sinus headaches. Taking Sudafed...
