Ray's face appearing on the front pages of most of the national papers meant it was down to Bodie to find work to keep them. They both grew beards and Bodie let his hair grow longer while Ray cut his short. Bodie lamented the fact that Ray's curls had disappeared and they commiserated over a bottle of single malt when Bodie found his first grey hair.

Bodie's days were filled with work -- hard, physical graft, working on a building site as a general labourer. Ray kept himself busy growing vegetables in their 150-foot long garden and helping out at the local martial arts club.

Their nights were dedicated to rediscovering each other; re-exploring a sexuality they'd kept hidden from the world in order to be allowed to protect it.

One particular afternoon, Bodie seemed to be in a contemplative mood. He was staring at Ray blankly.

"Blink," Ray advised.

"Eh?" Bodie said, startled

"You're staring."

Bodie shook his head. "Thinking."

"Careful," Ray chided, smiling.

Bodie ignored him. "It's time we moved on."

"What? I'm just getting comfortable living here." He caught the look on Bodie's face. "Ah. Quite."

"Anywhere you fancy?"

Ray didn't have to think about it. "London."

"You what? Did cutting off your curls take away some brain cells? In case you hadn't noticed, mate, Cowley's dead and you're Prime Suspect Number One."

"Exactly! Cowley's dead and while they're looking for me, no-one is looking for the real killer."

Bodie mulled this over. "Why should we care? He screwed us over." But his face showed some of the anguish he still felt at his former boss's betrayal and ultimate death.

"Did he?" Ray sat down next to Bodie, a comforting presence. "Cowley was the master of triple-think. We're missing something. Something important."

Bodie stretched and yawned, knocking his leg against Doyle's. "We probably are. Let's sleep on it."

He stood up and Ray got up with him. "But I thought you-"

"I do." Bodie pulled him into a hug. "But if we're leaving here, I want some good memories. Fantastic, even. Something to reminisce on in me old age."

He waggled his eyebrows and Ray kissed him hard. He hoped they would make it into old age.
