Doyle was already up and sitting at the kitchen table when Bodie walked in. They exchanged pleasantries, skirting around the subject until Doyle cleared his throat.
"Look," he said, "I don't like things being awkward between us. Could we just forget what I did last night?"
"Which part?"
"Don't be obtuse; you know which part."
"Maybe I don't want to forget. Maybe I can't forget." Bodie threw Ray's words back at him, deliberately.
"You should."
"Will you?"
"Yeah."
"Liar."
Doyle's lips quirked. "Fighting words," he murmured, sipping his tea.
Bodie shook his head. "Don't want to fight you. You're all I've got."
Doyle snorted. "You should be saying that to some bird."
Bodie leaned forward in his chair. "How the hell do I get a bird to understand this?" he demanded. "It's taken me a long time to realise..."
He drew in a breath and Doyle eyed him warily. "Realise what?"
"That I wouldn't mind this going further... that I want it to go further... if you want to."
"How much further?"
"All the way?"
Doyle nodded. "We must be off our rockers," he said.
"Yeah." Bodie breathed out in relief. He beamed. "Looks like we're stuck with each other then."
Doyle leaned in closer so that their faces were almost touching. "Looks like it," he murmured, brushing his lips against Bodie's.
