Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny warm day in Toronto so the lemur and I took the bikes on the GO train to Oshawa and rode down to Lakeview Park and then back along the Waterfront Trail to Rouge Hill with a stop for lunch in Pickering. I was out exploring a couple of new bike routes in the east end of the city this morning. Things started off OK. I took the Waterfront Trail to the point where one can turn north onto the UoT Scarborough campus and followed the loop of trails swinging north and back west to end up on Lawrence Avenue. The season for under eighteen boys and girls started last night. I was out in Etobicoke to ref a new club, the Etobicoke Invictus, vs. an Aurora Barbarians side. When I started reffing I found U18 boys quite tough because they tend to be quite fast games but now they just seem routine. This morning I was planning to ride up to Edwards Gardens and back. I was on my way back when my chain got jammed between two sprockets on the front gear. This happened where the trail from Wilket Creek to the Lower Don crosses the railway. From there I would have been home comfortably in thirty minutes. Yesterday was a glorious day here; mid 20s and sunny though cooler immediately by the lake. I rode my bike out along the Waterfront Trail to Oshawa. It's a really lovely trail for much of the way. I am managing to keep the biking despite the distinct cooling off of the weather. It's been around 5C most days here lately which is distinctly cool on a bike. I got in 170km last week and started off this week with another 40km today. I picked a rather hilly route this morning and was very cold and tired when I got home. Rugby season is pretty much done. I did a couple of games at the beginning of the month but I think all that's left now is the cup final and I don't think they are going to ask me to referee that! I continued my eastward explorations on the Waterfront trail today. I used my previous route via the Don Valley, Taylor Creek and St. Clair East to get me onto the trail at Eglinton GO station.
