I was out exploring a couple of new bike routes in the east end of the city this morning. Things started off OK. I took the Waterfront Trail to the point where one can turn north onto the UoT Scarborough campus and followed the loop of trails swinging north and back west to end up on Lawrence Avenue. Today we go to the polls to elect a mayor, city council and school board trustees. My ward has a fairly decent incumbent councillor who will be reelected, probably with 80% of the vote, so no big decision there. The big one is the mayoral race. There are three candidates. Yesterday while out shopping we discovered that Toronto's newest park; Sugar Beach is now open. It's a very strange arrangement of sand, granite, beach chairs and pink plastic umbrellas nestling between the new Corus Entertainment building and the sugar refinery. This year's Zombie Walk was decidedly tame, certainly compared to two years ago. It started at Trinity Bellwoods Park and proceeded via Queen and Bathurst to Bloor, so no cemeteries, and the police made everyone stay on the sidewalk so no swarming of cars or anything.
