This evening after art class I swung by the cemetery to once again try to get rid of the paper wasp nest in the bush. Not sure if I succeeded or not.

Wet, windy and cold. That's it. It feels like mid April this weekend. The predicted beautiful sunny weekend ebbed away by Thursday, and we may see the sun on Monday. Meanwhile... the cemetery was pretty good looking when we left on Friday. The cold just won't quit. What the hell happened to my font by the way?? Last night the cold rebounded after a perfectly normal day. Sore throat started to creep back in. Did you hear the buzz? Well, I didn't. Not till it was too late. Friday ended the day with three yellow jacket stings after I weed whipped or stepped on a bees nest. I got a notice from my mortgage holder (well, the bank that poses as my mortgage holder, as it really belongs to Freddie or Fannie now) telling me they have no record of my having insurance. I got a good picture of my wasp today. Oh, did I tell you, the single wasp nest from last year has now bloomed into a condominium complex at the cemetery, with maybe 10 ground wasps defending perhaps 6 nests? Yeah, right near the water pipe too. Great stuff.

This morning I caught sight of the hummingbird hovering away from the new feeder on the porch. So I waited by the door for about a minute, and sure enough he or she came back, sat on the perch (this feeder has perches) and drank for about 15 seconds before flying off with a tweet. So cool. I noticed a lot of the two year old maples (well, they aren't two years old, they were planted two years ago, but they are probably about 15 or so) at the train station are turning orange. Its' just a bit too soon for that, which makes me wonder what condition they will be in next year, or if this year is just so screwy that they are totally ( Read more... )
