8. Friend
“London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down”
The bright and energetic voice filled the entire room.
9-year-old Gayoon sat on the last step of the stairs, her cheek resting on the palm of her hand. She had a smile on her face as she was watched the scene before her.
“London Bridge Is - oh! Gayoon noona!!” Gayoon blinked, removing her palm from her cheek and looking at the one who called her. “What?” she asked innocently, tilting her head to the side. The other laughed, running to her.
“Hold out your hand!!” Gayoon blinked, face confused. “Geez… why do you sound so excited…” “Noona~ Just do it!” Gayoon looked at the other for a while, before shrugging and holding out her hand. Not even a second after the other suddenly places his hand on top of hers before removing his hand and revealing a bracelet. It was a very colorful and childish bracelet, obvious that it was handmade because of the sloppy and childish knot on the bracelet along with the mismatching and very bright and colorful beads and shells decorating it.
“It’s a bracelet!!” the other beamed. “I made one for you too!!” Gayoon looked at the bracelet. She looked at it with confused eyes before her eyes widened and suddenly her face turned red and she was blushing so much that she hid her face in her lap along with a muffled ‘Thank you so much!!’
“Don’t lose it, okay noona? It’s really special and it’s just for you!” the other said making Gayoon squeal lightly and turn even redder.
Yoseob laughed brightly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
It was deadly quiet.
Nothing was heard except the ticking off the clock, the sound bouncing off the walls. It was loud, it was echoing as it drummed into your ears, accompanied by the muffled sound of the rain.
But to Gayoon everything was quiet.
To Gayoon not one thing was heard as she stood by the wall, face filled with sadness and worry as she looked at the other person in the room with her. The one that was lying down on the floor, curled up into a ball and back facing her, sleeping peacefully. The figure itself looked vulnerable, it looked afraid.
She was starring at Yoseob.
He was clutching a doll tightly - too tight and too desperate - to his chest. The doll had blonde, messy hair and wore a pink drew adorned with ruffles and laces. On it’s face a blindfold was wrapped tightly around its eyes. Gayoon’s eyes flickered to the doll for a moment, shifting uncomfortably at seeing the doll being held on so tightly.
She held on the bracelet in her hand tighter.
Above them the lights kept flickering on and off.
“Yoseobah…” she whispered softly - voice almost inaudible. Her voice was unstable, it sounded depressed. It sounded sad. It sounded anxious.
Suddenly Yoseob opened his eyes at the mention of his name. He opened his eyes but he did not move - he didn’t move an inch. He opened his eyes - as if he was not sleeping a while ago. Gayoon knew Yoseob opened his eyes even with his back facing her. Yoseob didn’t respond, he didn’t move - not a single sound, as if he was still sleeping - but Gayoon knew he was listening.
She knew a lot of things about Yoseob.
When Yoseob still didn’t move - eyes staring at nothing - Gayoon started talking.
“Yoseobah - “
“Why?” Yoseob suddenly said, voice long and monotone and Gayoon froze. Yoseob’s hands were shaking - he as clutching the doll even tighter. “Why…? Noona…”
“…I’m scared…” he continued. His voice wasn’t monotone - it was shaking, it was shaking with fear and sadness and anger and it sounded vulnerable and it sounded scared.
“I know…” Gayoon said softly, voice kind and reassuring and gentle. “I know… it’s okay” she looked at him with sad eyes. She cares about him.
“It’s okay”
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Junhyung was walking down the hall.
He was on his way back to his and Hyunseung’s room, holding a small snack in his hands that he was going to share with Hyunseung. He was trying to make his way back quickly, trying to get back to their room because he hates the feeling he was getting now and he just wanted to escape from it.
The feeling that someone was watching him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Junhyung closed the door behind him, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. He leaned on the door for a while, eyes closed, before heading towards his boyfriend.
“Seung, I’m bac - “
He froze. Hyunseung was sitting by the window, face blank as he looked out the window. He didn’t move when Junhyung called him.
“Seung?” he asked, heading towards the older carefully.
“He’s outside” Hyunseung said softly, almost a whisper. He didn’t look at Junhyung, his eyes were still locked outside the window. “Who…is?” Junhyung asked, frowning a little before going behind Hyunseung - his hand on the other’s shoulder - and trying to see what Hyunseung was looking at.
His eyes widened. Yoseob was outside on the rooftop. Junhyung suddenly remembered the first time he saw Yoseob there. It was very much like this time, standing still in a rainy and dark day.
“He’s different” Hyunseung continued, voice so quiet that only Junhyung could hear it. Junhyung blinked, not knowing how to reply. He looked at his lover, only to see that his face remained indifferent.
“Don’t you notice? Him… Yang Yoseob…” Suddenly a flood of images rushed into Hyunseung’s mind. The dolls. The room. The tune. He gave out a shaky breath.
“He’s different”
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Gayoon was busy wiping the tables on the dining room. She was humming a small tune as she happily yet carefully cleaned the table.
She was busy wiping a small stain off the tablet when she suddenly heard a noise from behind her. She spun on her heels quickly, eyes wide -
“Ah… Doojoonah… It’s just you… You scared me” she smiled at the other. Doojoon raised his brows a little before smiling back. “Hi” he said simply, going over to her. “So… What brings you here?” Gayoon asked warmly, a small smile on her face as she continued wiping the tables. Doojoon was quiet for a while, leaning on one o the chairs. “Hmm... nothing much I guess…” he trailed off. It was quiet after that.
To be honest, there was a reason why Doojoon was downstairs. There was a reason on why he wasn’t in his room and instead was outside roaming around.
Ever since his last ‘talk’ with Yoseob, Doojoon didn’t see him again. It’s been a little over a week and up until now there wasn’t any sign of the blonde. Not even the tune he hums could be heard. He was nowhere to be found. And Doojoon couldn’t help but think…
That maybe it was because of him.
“Don’t leave…please…” His voice was emotionless but Doojoon could somehow tell that there was sadness in his voice.’
Doojoon clenched his teeth. “I’m sorry, Yoseob-sshi” he muttered quietly - he didn’t know if Yoseob heard it or not - before running back to the others.
Doojoon sighed. What if Yoseob did not want to talk to him anymore because of that? What is he did not want to show himself at all?
That was the last time he saw him. And ever since then Doojoon tried looking for Yoseob. He would go to random places, hoping for the other to be there somewhere. So that he could talk to Yoseob, apologize to him, get to know him. Because after their conversation last time, Doojoon felt as if he needed to know him more, that under all those coldness in his eyes, there lies a deep innocence and warmth…
“Doojoonah”
Doojoon looked up - train of thoughts stopping - hearing Gayoon suddenly call him. Gayoon was silent after that, making Doojoon look at her, brows knotted together. “Gayoon…?”
Gayoon stopped wiping the table, She was standing still, head hung low, one arm limp on her side while the other gripping the chair next to her tightly.
“Doojoonah…” she called again. Her voice was calm and warm despite her uneasy appearance. “Can I… ask you something…?”
Doojoon blinked confusingly, slightly caught off guard. “err… sure” he gave a small smile to Gayoon. There was a short pause after that - Gayoon shifting her eyes uncomfortably for a while, before she gave out a small breath.
She was about to talk when suddenly someone appeared on the doorway behind Doojoon. He cleared his throat, causing the two to look at him. Gayoon’s eyes widened slightly. Doojoon narrowed his eyes slightly, feeling more confused.
They couldn’t see him much - he was facing sideways, half of his face hidden by the shadows. He looked around the same age as Doojoon. He wore glasses which prevented them from seeing his eyes properly but his face held no expression. But even with this you could still tell that he was a handsome yet stern person. He wore a white coat, standing upright and tall.
“Gayoon sshi, a word Please.” He said clearly, voice firm and sure - no hint of uneasiness at all. Gayoon took a big breath, looking at Doojoon for a while before walking past him and making her way to the other man. Soon after that Doojoon could hear the hushed voices - the man’s voice being rather calm but Gayoon’s voice seemed rushed. But still he couldn’t make out what they were saying. So he stood there, his back facing the other two, feeling slightly awkward not really knowing if he should go or not.
Then finally he saw it, he found him.
It was only quick - Doojoon barely caught it - but he saw him. He was sure it was him. He saw a glimpse of Yoseob as he passed the doorway - behind Gayoon and the other man - going someplace else. Unconsciously Doojoon’s heart began to beat faster in nervousness and in excitement upon finally finding him.
So he followed him.
Doojoon quickly straightened himself up, forgetting about the whole situation he was in, before scurrying to where Yoseob went, past the doorway, past Gayoon. Gayoon blinked, eyes wide as she saw Doojoon pass by her hurriedly, stopping her conversation with the other. She watched as he hurried off someplace else.
“Yoseobah! Wait!” she heard Doojoon call out faintly. Her eyes widened, realizing what was happening before suddenly her eyes morphed into a glare, looking at Doojoon’s back as he ran off to Yoseob. She clenched her teeth in anger.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“Yoseobah! Wait!” Doojoon called out, rushing to where Yoseob was. Yoseob ignored him and instead kept walking forward, as if he heard nothing. “Yoseobah!!” Doojoon called out again. Suddenly Yoseob turned on a corner, making Doojoon clench his teeth before running to catch up with him before he loses him again.
“Yoseobah wait, please!” he turned the corner quickly -
“GAH!!” he shouted, stopping in his tracks and moving back quickly. The moment he turned Yoseob was there, directly in front of him, and Doojoon swore the moment he turned he was mere inches away from Yoseob.
He panted, hands on his knees - not because he was tired, but because of the shock he received. Yoseob simply watched him with blank eyes.
After a while - Doojoon still on his knees - Yoseob turned around, about to walk away again -
“N-no! Wait!” Doojoon called, out, rushing forward. He reached out his hand to grab Yoseob’s arm -
Yoseob suddenly stopped, making Doojoon stop his actions. His hand was inches away from Yoseob’s arm when Yoseob talked, back still facing Doojoon.
“What…?” he said with a hushed voice, Doojoon not knowing whether he was irritated or happy or anything. He slowing brought his hand away from Yoseob’s. Suddenly he felt nervous, he didn’t know why but he felt unsteady all over all. He swallowed. “W-e-ell… I was looking for you…” he said looking down.
“About… last time” he continued.
“You’re afraid… aren’t you?”
“Don’t leave…please…”
Doojoon balled his fists tight, teeth clenching. “I - “
“I’m sorry!!” Doojoon said a little to loudly, a little to rushed, a little to agitated. He bowed down 90 degrees to Yoseob’s back, eyes shut tightly in nervousness. “After that time… I felt bad… so…”
“I… I want to be friends with you!!”
Yoseob stayed quiet. Everything was quiet and Doojoon knew that he sounded lame and that he sounded a bit too desperate.
Suddenly Yoseob turned around. He turned around slowly as he looked at Doojoon with big and round eyes and for a split second Doojoon thought that he saw fear in those eyes.
Yoseob opened his mouth to talk -
Suddenly a scream was heard.

I did not know what to name this chapter because it isn’t much of a real ‘chapter’ but more like a bunch of short stories placed together 8D
I felt like the pace of the story is getting slow and boring so starting now I will speed things up a little~
