Say you want to file a civil suit against someone. How does one go about doing that? What kind of lawyer? Any recommendations? I've never been the litigious type and I know nothing about NYS laws, so this is new and kind of scary for me.

The state pressed criminal charges against this person, but I'm seeking recovery & damages.

I seem to have lost my birth certificate.
How do I go about getting a new one? I was born at DeGraff Hospital if that helps. Also, how long does it take to get one?

I've lived in my apartment for like seven months now without a kitchen sink. I moved in with the understanding that the sink would be fixed and quite frankly I'm tired of paying my rent and having nothing done about it. Under what circumstances can you break a lease?

There's a crack in my ceiling in my kitchen that runs the entire length of the ceiling, and today water started pouring out of it. A bunch of other areas in the apartment started leaking as well. There's also problems with the electrical outlets and other smaller things.
