Say you want to file a civil suit against someone. How does one go about doing that? What kind of lawyer? Any recommendations? I've never been the litigious type and I know nothing about NYS laws, so this is new and kind of scary for me.

The state pressed criminal charges against this person, but I'm seeking recovery & damages.
