Another thing I wanted to comment on regarding my reading last night, and the activity in general, has to do with the attitude from which I tackle a book. I'm looking at an enlistment picture from 1943 of Jack Kerouac. Funny how one of the great writers of the 20th century died a drunk living with his mother. I'm not sure why I have the picture up on my screen. I'd been thinking about him yesterday, and it is a handsome picture. Jack Kerouac's original 120 foot long scroll of On The Road is literally right across the street from me RIGHT NOW! Columbia is having an exhibition with the scroll as a centerpiece. They've had pictures of him in their windows for weeks, but I didn't recognize him until today.
