About five months ago, I wrote to The People's Friend, asking them if they wanted to publish one of the short stories I wrote for my MA course. It was one of the assessed pieces, and I'd worked pretty hard on it even though I didn't love it, so I figured it would be a good start for sending off to people for consideration.

I have reached a new low. I spent at least an hour earlier translating "Long Live the King" into Old English. (I looked up subjunctives and adverbs and all sorts of things.) And for what?
