Hi. Have been lurking for a long while.

There is an event tonight at a cupcake shop, in which student photos will be exhibited. I was invited by a former classmate to come and read poetry, along with others; we're supposed to look at the photos and write poems inspired by them.

( Trigger warning for mention of self-harm in the seventh paragraph after the cut; also sorry for wordiness, but I was trying to describe the situation exactly and without gettinng overwhelmed, so slowly went step by step only to go into my mental/emotional states towards the end; Thanks in advance for your time! )

So, here's something I never thought about before. How do you tell a child that you have AS? Young kids internalize everything. As far as they know, the world revolves around them, because they have to depend on that world to take care of them. I have a question about aspies and sensory stuff.  My 11 year old daughter has some sensory issues.  She has distinct issues with certain clothing textures and getting dirty sometimes but other times seems to have a less sensitive sense of touch.  The issue right now is her hair.  She hates grooming issues.  But she is trying(I think).  I still ( Read more... )

I do. And even though I know I can go for days if not weeks without bathing-I would do something about it when I can smell myself-my family here has to remind me everyday to shower.
