Unexpected Dinner arrived from the kitchen as Cain and Jeanie were returning to the table and the four of them had a rather enjoyable conversation through the meal. Jeanie offered some of her dish to DG, in exchange for some of the pasta and Jeanie had to down half her glass of white wine after tasting the spicy oil.
Which proceeded to both Simon and Cain wanting to try the pasta. DG found it easier to simply pass her plate around the table and she enjoyed the bread while the three of them tried to make themselves sick. The oil had some kind of hot peppers infused, which gave the plain noodles quite a kick.
The flavor wasn't one to be chased by lemonade, that was certain. At the face DG made, Cain decided he needed to try the combination and made the most entertaining face of all of them, all evening. As the waiter passed by the table, DG asked for a few glasses of water, which the man brought rather promptly.
After the plates were cleared, Simon reached for Jeanie's hand a pressed a kiss to it. "My dear, DG and I are going to run away together."
"Heh, what?" DG asked. Cain, DG and Jeanie looked at each other for a moment, then to Simon.
"To the dance floor," Simon nodded ahead of him. DG rolled her eyes and shook her head. He thought he was funny.
"That's quite all right, dear," Jeanie said with a smile. "I'm leaving you for Wyatt." DG snorted and turned to Cain with an impressed look. Cain clenched his jaw, looked at Simon and nodded.
"At least we have an understanding," Simon said with a nod and pushed his chair back. He stood up and moved behind Cain, patting him on the shoulder, and held out a hand to DG. "Shall we?"
"We shall," DG said with a nod and took his hand.
As they moved down to the floor, Simon threw a glance back to the table and smiled down to DG. "So?" he asked as they started to move with the music.
"Lah," DG replied with a wink. Simon laughed and nodded his head. He'd walked into that one.
"How are you?" DG raised an eyebrow and pulled back from Simon as he pushed her away and pulled her back, giving her a slight spin.
"I'm fine," she nodded.
"I meant 'how are you', in general." DG narrowed her eyes slightly and looked at Simon. "You're different," Simon said matter-of-factly. "-since you got back," he added with a slight nod. DG smiled slightly and let her head drop.
Letting out a deep breath, she looked back up to Simon. "You know how they say 'you can't go home again'?" Simon nodded. "Well, you can... What they don't tell you, is that leaving again is a bit more complicated," she said, pressing her lips together and forcing a smile. Simon nodded again and pulled DG a bit closer.
He pressed a kiss to the top of her head and gave her a twirl around the dance floor. The danced for a minute in silence and then Simon squeezed her hand. "What's keeping you?" he asked quietly.
"Oh," DG said airly. "I haven't yet managed to draw my landlord's husband into a mad love affair," she grinned. Simon laughed out loud and nodded, also smiling. He saw her eyes move toward Cain and he smiled again.
"You really think he's gonna stay here if you go?" he asked with a laugh.
"He might," DG replied with a shrug and gave Simon a look when he snorted. "Stranger things have happened with him... The man danced to New Kids on the Block, Simon."

Cain and Jeanie watched them for a few moments before Cain turned to Jeanie. "Should we show them how that's done?"
Jeanie smiled and nodded. "I believe we should." Cain pushed away from the table and reached across the table to take Jeanie's hand as she stood and they moved down to the dance floor to join Simon and DG. The song was more upbeat now and Simon and DG watched with impressed nods as Cain and Jeanie spun around them.
About halfway through the number, Jeanie nodded toward Simon and DG and Cain and they moved back across the dance floor. "You aren't stepping on her toes, I hope," Jeanie asked Simon.
Simon shook his head and DG smiled. "He's dancin' like a pro," DG stated.
Jeanie reared back slightly and shook her head. "This I have to see," she replied with a smile and let go of Cain, waving DG aside. DG smiled and stepped back to let Jeanie take her place. She smiled again when Simon kissed his wife and the two of them spun away.
She glanced up to Cain when his hand took hers and he nodded to the crowd behind him. DG nodded, gave him the slightest curtsey and laughed as the music picked up. Cain was trying to watch the others on the floor to see how they were twisting and turning.
The song finally ended and Cain sighed. "I can't do this fast stuff. Too many ways to turn." DG laughed and nodded as the band began playing a much slower song. Instinctively, DG stepped closer to Cain and she stared at his shoulder as soon as she realized she'd done it. They both went silent and simply moved with the music, listening to the irony of the words.
You give your hand to me then you say hello
I can hardly speak, my heart is beating so
And anyone can tell you think you know me well
But you don't know me
No, you don't know the one who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips and longs to hold you tight
Oh I'm just a friend, that's all I've ever been
'cause you don't know me
Cain's hand tightened around hers and he tried not to look at her, knowing that, if he did, everything he wanted to say would come spilling out. He'd spent the last week trying to find the right words to tell DG that he loved her, but everything just sounded wrong.
And, now, here she was, in his arms again and he was frozen. She would know he read the letters, she would be angry. 'Shut up,' his internal voice grumbled. 'Just tell her. Get it over with.'
I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I've let my chance to go by
The chance that you might love me, too
Apparently there was a song written for everything, he noted. He really wanted to start laughing. 'Just do it. If it ends badly, it does. You're driving me crazy, the voice said again.
Cain almost stopped to argue with himself, but DG turned toward him. "No offense to your awesome moves," she said with a slight wave to him. "But you’re much better at the slow stuff."
Cain smiled and looked away quickly. "I must say, I rather enjoyed the-" he said, motioning the roping motion with both their hands. DG laughed and let her head drop to his shoulder. She breathed another laugh and lifted her head and tried to look everywhere but at Cain.
"I, uh..." Cain started quietly. 'Now or never.' DG turned her head toward him and he swallowed. He gave her a quick smile and nodded slightly. "I l-"
