SUNRISE
As the glow of morning poured through the curtains, DG turned her head slightly and opened her eyes. Cain was there, as he had been for the last few mornings, and she had to remind herself that it wasn't a dream; he really was there.

A large part of her didn't want to believe it. Why should she?

Her whole life had been a trail of disappointment - most of it caused by her - and she didn't deserve happiness. 'Quit feeling sorry for yourself, Kid,' her inner Cain-voice sighed. He was right, she knew, and she needed to stop.

She wasn't the same girl she had been before the eclipse. She'd grown up and she'd fallen in love with a man who loved her back. Why, though, she couldn't figure. Her avoidance issues alone should have sent him packing.

Yes, some horrible things happened in her past - and his - and she had a hand in it... but it was in the past. "No use crying over spilled muglug," Glitch had once told her. Her self-pity party was interrupted as Cain, who was just waking up, rolled toward her and pulled her close.

He would never let go.
