Yesterday, sometime between 10am and noon, the wi-fi went down not only for CCRC, but for the main DARS office next door and the Brown-Heatly state offices across the lot.  It is "not a priority" to the IT staff responsible for all three, since they have other, more productivity-impairing fires to put out and anyone who isn't trying to use ( Read more... )

     So the wi-fi is fine.  Nice and fast, totally unsecured (which is an unfortunate but necessary trade-off).  It took me a couple of hours to realize that the reason I couldn't get the PS3 to log on was that you have to start by signing a click-through absolving the state of responsibility, which meant I couldn't use the net until I'd fired up ( Read more... )

     We'll be leaving for Austin in the next hour.  Thankfully, it appears that Austin got WiMAX in December; I was unaware that Sprint markets as CLEAR in some areas and ClearWire in others, so when ClearWire (which operates here in Longview) had no access within 50 miles of the city, that was it.  So the net situation is essentially resolved, ( Read more... )

Had an overnight tour of the Criss Cole Center, which will shortly be my home for three months.  I leave next Saturday and my full evaluation will start on 2/15 (it runs for a week, and then Monday the 22nd I'll start classes).
