The Walkers' Christmas party last night was wonderful. Spent the whole day in the kitchen baking, cleaning, and being intermittently cuddled by Catherine. My parents had a great time eating clam chowder and listening to Catherine's Uncle Tom play the pennywhistle. Ian had lots of sugar, played StepMania, and got to poke the fire. It is perfectly healthy to take time off before going to graduate school. Especially if it's what you feel you need in order to get the most out of the education and your life. I mean, you have so much time - you don't need to do everything at once. As my mom says it's advisable - you need to go do something, relax, ("learn some language that starts with an I" my dad says) do something interesting that you'll never have a chance to do again. It's good to get a break from academics. So I say go for it - do what's best for you and what will give you the most in life. You have tons of people who support you. :)

speaking as someone who has taken a break from academics and doesn't regret it so far - if it feels right, it probably is. and having more experiences might just make grad school more manageable.

Thank you, Saira. That means a lot from a friend as dear as you, and from someone who's been there and knew it was the right choice.

are you moving to portland? I might end up in Portland. at least, everyone tells me that's where I should go. and since I don't have a plan anyway...

Well but my point is, if we both end up in Portland, you should come and bake pies with me and the cat that I'm going to get. When I get where I'm going.

Hey there -- I just wanted to stop in and say thank you so much for the Christmas card! I didn't get a chance to send out cards this year, or I certainly would have sent you one. It was great to hear from you, especially since I've been offline so long and haven't had a chance to keep up with your posts. And I'm glad I've somehow managed to rank among your favorite atheists. ;)

Hope you have a great Christmas! :D Happy New Year!

You have so much love in your life because you give so much love to others.

Your Christmas card made me cry. Thank you so much.
