~Chapter ten - LAST CHAPTER~

Nino had never run so much in his entire life.
Nor that he was actually pushing himself to the edge, but as he had never loved extreme efforts and sacrifices, this could have been considered a first for him…
He really wanted to catch up with Sakurai as soon as possible because he had the feeling that for every single second spent in talking with Aiba, Sho would have moved away from him a little further… and the brat was fully intentioned to recover that.
So he was running as fast as he could, on that familiar way that he had walked countless of times side-by-side with his old friend.
But it was strange how that well-known route seemed so different right now: it was almost like all the buildings around him had become bigger and overshadowing, and the road had changed into something more narrow and suffocating…
His lucid mind blamed the lack of oxygen due to the sudden rush, but a tiny voice inside him suggested that he was actually extremely tense for what was going to happen.
Later he would have thanked both of them, because all those strong sensations made him stop in the middle of the road, in order to catch his breath and calm down as well… and when he looked around, trying to focus on where he was, he realized to have stopped not far from a little playground: the very same place where he was used to play with Sho during their childhood.
He hadn’t been there in ages.
Even though he was used to walk down that street, he hadn’t entered in that place during the latest years, as they had gotten used to a different kind of entertainment already… a little recreation ground filled with children wasn’t exactly his favourite place where to spend time!
Even so, he decided to follow his instinct and he stepped inside the small park, dipping into those almost forgotten memories; he smiled in amusement when he recognized the slide *his favourite slide* which he was used to climb when he was a little bratty kid, pretending to be the boss of their little gang. He would spend there the whole afternoon, forbidding all the other children to play on that game, and the only one who was allowed to climb up with him was his faithful companion: Sho-chan. At the time he was more like a little servant, assigned to bring him snacks and beverages… still, he was the chosen one.
Not far from the slide were standing a couple of old swings, at which he couldn’t help but stare marveled: he was sure that they were used to be a lot bigger in the past, when they gave him the impression of touching the sky every single time he would swing higher and higher…
And in the midst of his thoughts he realized that it was an extreme opposite sensation compared to what he had been feeling until a little while before, while running down the street… now he was feeling somehow reassured, relaxed. That place had indeed a great effect on him, and if he was right, it should have been the very same thing for Sho… consequently, he had great chances to find him there.
Being confident about his intuition, the brat kept walking down the narrow path under the trees… until he finally spotted his old friend, who was wandering around as well.
Sakurai was heading down the same path, a few meters ahead, and he was giving him his back: he looked like a very lonely figure with his hands inside his pockets, walking in a slow pace, apparently heading nowhere in particular…
And Nino’s heart skipped a beat.
This was his last chance.
From his position, the top student couldn’t see his friend approaching to him… and lost in thought as he was, he didn’t even hear those hurried footsteps coming closer… until he felt a hand gripping his wrist.
He immediately turned back, quite startled for the sudden action, and he had barely the chance to recognize the brat, that he immediately got squeezed in a tight embrace.
Ninomiya was hugging him as if he hadn’t any intention to let him ever go.
“Nino…? What are you…?”
Not knowing what was going on, the top student struggled in order to get released… with the result that the other guy hugged him even more tightly.
“I’m sorry” he whispered softly.
Actually, he spoke really softly, considering that he was also keeping his face buried into Sakurai’s shoulder… but those words weren’t something that he could say out louder than that, and he just hoped that Sho had managed to hear them somehow…
Luckily, he did. Because he immediately stopped struggling.
Reassured that his friend was now listening to him, the brat whispered once again… “I missed you”.
And at those words, Sakurai blushed noticeably.
Of course, as they were actually standing Nino wasn’t able to stare directly into his face, and Sho was surely glad about it because he was feeling happy and flattered, but also embarrassed and awkward… still not knowing what to think.
He knew very well how hard it was for Nino to apologize… and as if those first words hadn’t been enough, what he had said immediately after was far better.
Unexpected and unhoped-for.
“Why?” asked Sakurai in a throaty voice, trying not to reveal his expectations.
“What does «Why? » means?” replied Nino, now backing off a little from their embrace, in order to look straight into his eyes. He seemed somehow pissed, even though Sakurai could perceive that he wasn’t annoyed for real…
Apparently, he was genuinely surprised that his straight actions hadn’t been clearly understood, but the truth was, the top student wanted to be sure about his true aim. He had already learnt that the higher your hopes are, the badly you can be hurt if things would go bad.
“Why are you telling me these things now…? I can’t understand…”
“What? Have you really thought to be the only one who cherishes our relationship?” replied the brat in a slightly offended tone “Have you really thought that I was going to let you go away so easily? You may be a genius sometimes, but you can be quite stupid as well…”
“Hey!” Sakurai interrupted him, in an pissed tone. He didn’t want to be teased even before having agreed to be friends once again. He was about to reply, to object and protest against Nino’s renewed bratty attitude, but before having the chance to do so, he found his lips caught in a sudden kiss.
Ninomiya was holding still his neck and cheeks, preventing him to move away as he had preferred to use this technique in order to silent him.
It was surely better than any other thing he would have tried to say. He was No Good with words sometimes.
He brushed softly his lips against Sho’s, not actually trying to obtain full access to his mouth but simply enjoying that pleasant sensation… and when he made sure that his partner wasn’t going to reject him, he deepened the kiss by licking the corner of his mouth and sucking his lips as well…
If it had been up to Nino, he would have kept kissing and devouring his mate until getting completely aroused and making him beg for something more… but this wasn’t the reason why he had wanted to meet him so badly.
There were other things that needed to be settled before.
So he unwillingly moved away from him while taking a deep breath, and he looked straight into his eyes…
“I’m sorry” he mumbled again
“For… kissing me?” asked uncertain the top student, blushing in embarrassment.
“No. The kiss was… part of my apology. Baka!! You really don’t get it at all…”
Strange to say, but for an instant Sakurai had the impression that Nino was getting embarrassed as well… as if his innocent question had thrown him off balance, by forcing him to explain himself better!
“You are not expecting me to bow and beg for forgiveness, aren’t you?” asked the brat in a teasing tone, trying to regain his usual attitude in order to ignore any other bothersome feeling.
“I AM actually sorry for what I did to you, and I’m sorry not to have apologized earlier, but…” he kissed him softly once again, catching him completely off guard “…this is what you’ll get from me. Just to let you know. I’m not good in being humble and weepy, but I can be good in making you happy, if you’ll allow me to do so.”
Sho was staring at him speechless.
He couldn’t believe at his own ears. It’s not that he didn’t trust him, but he really didn’t know what to say or how to react… so he just stayed silent and let him talk.
“Let’s simply say that I didn’t realize how important you are until I became really afraid to have lost you for real. I’ve gotten so used to be with you, no matter what, that I lost the right perspective of things… it wasn’t true that I kept behaving as usual as I wrongly thought; it was you who were extremely patient towards me even though my behavior kept worsening. That’s why I didn’t realize immediately to be wrong. I couldn’t find the difference between now and all the previous happenings… and I didn’t realize that all of them were wrong too…”
Ninomiya was expressing freely all his thoughts, without really pondering on what he was saying and without following some kind of prepared speech…
Not only he was apologizing for his last prank, but also for every previous action that could have hurt Sho’s feelings. Because he didn’t know how much damage he had done until that moment.
Aiba had said that being sincere would have been the best thing to do, and he was doing exactly like that.
Of course, if things would turn out badly as that guy had suggested him wrongly, he would have paid for it.
But somehow, the brat could tell that he was doing fine… because he could notice Sho’s tenseness flowing away, and a happier expression appeared on his friend’s face.
“You know, it’s quite unusual to hear you apologizing like this…” teased Sakurai, now much more relaxed than before “…I must have really scared you, haven’t I?”
“You can bet on that!” mumbled Ninomiya, acting pissed as he was being mocked, but actually feeling relieved in hearing his friend’s happy voice once again.
Then he came closer once again and rested his forearms on Sakurai’s shoulders, linking his own hands behind his nape and leaning his forehead onto Sho’s… “Don’t you dare to scare me off in this way ever again. I could go insane, you know…”
The top student smiled sheepishly, and for the first time, he took the initiative in kissing him.
Nino’s lips were so near that it wouldn’t have been that difficult, he thought. So he covered the short distance between them in a clumsy but sweet move, and he leaned his own lips onto his mate’s…
It lasted probably only few seconds, and he didn’t do nothing more than brushing him slightly.
He wasn’t an expert kisser like his friend was, and he simply didn’t know what to do as he wasn’t used to take the lead… Still, his chaste kiss had been enough to make Ninomiya blush visibly.
Probably because he wasn’t expecting it at all, or maybe because it was the first time he’d witnessed Sho doing something like that by his own will… and he had to admit that having him so active was far more better that forcing him or taking him off guard.
“I won’t scare you ever again… whispered Sakurai while looking into his eyes, soon after the kiss “…but you have to make me happy as you said before”
“I’ll do.” replied Ninomiya without even thinking too much about it “I’ll surely do.”
Another smile. Another kiss.
This time neither of them knew who had taken the initiative for it… with all probability, both of them had.
But it didn’t care anymore, because they were completely lost into their actions. They were conveying all their happy feelings into a kiss which became quickly more and more passionate.
While kissing him, Sho could feel Nino’s happiness, as he had finally managed to make up with him after having been incredibly worried about their fight…
At the same time, Ninomiya noticed with pleasure that Sakurai was letting himself go without restraining… he wasn’t backing off, he wasn’t trembling or being hesitant.
He was completely trusting him.
“Hurry! Toma-chan! There are two guys who are kissing over here!!” exclaimed suddenly a surprised childish voice behind them.
Both guys startled frightened with a guilty expression painted in their faces, putting half a meter between them while looking around in embarrassment… Of course, they were still inside a recreation ground for little kids, it wasn’t the best place where to let themselves go in a romantic or passionate attitude…
Luckily, there were no adults looking at them… just a couple of little kids with their eyes wide-open in surprise and interest…
Ninomiya crouched down in order to look straight into their eyes, and spoke to the children who had called out his friend a few seconds before, the one who had a particularly sharp expression, the one who could have created some problems in telling his parents what he had just witnessed…
“Ne, little kid… what’s your name?”
“Matsumoto Jun. And it’s quite un-polite to ask someone else’s name without introducing himself first, don’t you know?” he declared firmly.
He gave the impression to be an annoying brat even with that single sentence, but Nino suppressed his instinct to slap him and went on talking…
“Okay Jun-kun… my name is Nino. Why don’t we make a little promise? You won’t tell anybody what you’ve just saw, it’ll be our little secret… I’m sure you’ll do it, because you look really a good child…” the brat was trying his best in order to be as convincing as possible, even though dealing with children wasn’t exactly his best skill.
But as they was quite young and inexperienced, both Jun and Toma decided to trust him and nodded in agreement without complaining nor objecting… because secrets sound cool for every children!
And after patting them on the head in satisfaction, the brat directed again his attention on his mate “Let’s go away from here, I’m sure we can find a quieter place where to spend time…”
Sakurai blushed slightly, but still he squeezed Nino’s hand in approbation, smiling happily.
Things were going to be fabulous from now on.
At last.
Something that had started as a bully-slave relationship, had gradually become an opportunistic friendship, then a close relationship where both of them couldn’t stay without the other one… and finally, they had become a couple.
Sho’s patience and constancy had finally won: he had become someone unique and irreplaceable for the one he loved.
