~Prologue~

Sakurai Sho and Ninomiya Kazunari were long-time friends.

They had always been together since they first met in Primary School.
At that time Nino was a child with a precocious sharp behavior, who loved teasing other people without really caring for the consequences.
Of course, his courage and his nerve granted him admiration from the other children, who looked up at him in awe even though he was definitely not a smart model to follow.

On the contrary, Sho was the smartest child in class with the highest marks, well-mannered, cute and gentle towards the teachers and the other children… and in Nino’s opinion this was a good reason to be teased.
So the dweeb became the favourite target for the brat’s pranks.

Not to say that Sakurai was an extremely clumsy boy and this made things simpler for anyone who wanted to make fun of him…
Basically, at the beginning of their relationship, things didn’t evolve beyond that: Nino was the one who teased Sho in front of the entire class, gaining popularity on his shoulders, and the poor guy couldn’t do anything but undergo that treatment.

That’s why when Middle School started, Sakurai was far more than depressed in realizing that they would be being classmates again.
Luckily for him, things started to change as there were new people around them, people who didn’t know them as they had been in the past… new girls who were more attracted by that cute, nice and smart guy (instead of that sharp tongue of Nino).
Along with Sho’s raising popularity, Ninomiya’s behavior changed as well and his jokes toward him became more funny and less evil… until Sakurai himself became his accomplice showing all his self-irony, and their comical sketches had them become the two funniest guys in school.
Before they could realize it, they were already hanging out together more and more often.

So when they were attending High School (of course, together again) they were an indissoluble couple: Sakurai was the one who helped Ninomiya with his more and more difficult home-works, who gave him suggestions during lessons, who tutored him while preparing for exams… and Nino was used to take him to goukon and parties, introducing him to new people.
Someone could say that it wasn’t really a fair agreement, but they were both happy and satisfied about it.

After all, Sho was perfectly aware of his own shyness and he was glad that, thanks to Nino, he had more chances to relate with people.
He had never said it out loud, but he considered Nino as his best friend and he was glad about it.
Even though sometimes it was quite difficult to hang out with him, Sho had to admit that his friend was a very precious person, the only one who could always understand him, who could read through his thoughts and feelings.

As a matter of fact, Ninomiya had been the first one who realized the true reason why Sho’s love relationships used to fail one after another.
The top student had dated several girls before, the first one when he was still attending the last year of Middle School, the others during the following years (and of course Nino was aware of every single detail about them), but every time things ended badly or didn’t develop at all.
“I think you are more attracted by guys than girls” stated simply the brat during one of their studying sessions, not paying attention at all at those books in front of him.
This was his usual way of blurting out shocking news.
He would announce them in a careless tone when they were both focused on a silent activity, breaking the silence and their concentration as well, in order to obtain a greater effect.
Of course, Sakurai was quite shocked when he heard him saying that, but he couldn’t deny his statement: he had always been aware that there was something lacking in girls… not only the ones he had dated, but all of them.
He really preferred spending his time with his male friends and in more than one occasion he had found himself staring at them, admiring them, fantasizing on them…
“It’s not a bad thing, you know?” continued Nino calmly, as he were just stating the obvious “I’m like that too. I prefer guys over girls.”
“What? When? How come…?” Sho was quite confused by now.
He was used to see his friend hanging out with a lot of girls and he had always been the one who "forced "him to join those arranged meetings…
“Well, it has been a while since I realized it” he replied shrugging his shoulders “But I was thinking that you were still needing a push, in order to go on meeting new girls… of course, if you’re onto guys this won’t be necessary anymore.”
“Well… it’s not that I’m really sure if I’m onto guys or not…” mumbled the top student in a tiny voice
He had somehow the impression that Nino was jumping to conclusions a little too quickly.
“Don’t worry! It’ll be quite simple to test that out!”
A mischievous and somehow menacing grin appeared on the brat’s face.
“You’ve already kissed some girls before, haven’t you?” he asked happily, now totally giving his back at the table with the books he was supposed to study, turning towards Sakurai who had a puzzled look painted on his face.
“Yeah… I did that already, you know that…”
“Okay then, so you should just find out which one you like most.
And as soon as he had said that, Nino approached to his unaware friend and kissed him softly.

Sho hadn’t the chance to react.
The only one thing he could think about were those warm lips on his own, and that familiar scent that he had never felt so close before…
Then it was over. With a smiling Nino who was staring at him in satisfaction, waiting for his opinion: “So… did you like it? More than a girl’s kiss?”
He wasn’t embarrassed at all.
Nor that Sakurai had ever seen him in embarrassment…
“Yeah… I think so”
It would have been completely pointless to deny that. Forasmuch as Nino has always been able to read his thoughts.
And at the moment he was so embarrassed, surprised and above all, excited, that he was sure that his friend had already realized it.

“Yatta!” the brat stretched upwards his arms and let out a shout of joy “Now I’ve finally found someone who will come with me at those parties in those clubs… you know, it’s quite problematic to be there alone since everyone will try to pick me up… but if we are together we can always pretend to be a couple, in order to reject those guys I’m not interested in… do you get it?”
More than following his friend’s reasoning, Sakurai was staring at him speechless.
After all, things hadn’t changed at all since when they were kids.
He couldn’t fully understand why he had been kissed but apparently it has been one of his usual pranks, or something out of his self-interest.
Not so romantic for being his first kiss with a guy.
But since he had known Nino for a long time by now, he knew perfectly that he couldn’t expect anything more altruistic from him… he had already agreed on those strange conditions when he had accepted to be his friend, and it was a little too late to invert the course.

~to be continued…~
