JUNSU

“I’m sorry.” Yoochun apologized.

I looked at Yoochun and then at Yunho.

“I told him.” Yunho answered my silent question. “He asked.”

Yoochun witnessed it. My mind supplied.

“I shouldn’t have even mentioned it.” Yoochun said looking away.

I smiled at him, reassuring.

“We lost our parents when I was young but I was never lonely because I always had Jaejoong-hyung with me.” I said taking Yoochun’s hand in my own. “What happened to us… it was bad and it was rough. I’d be lying if I said I’m already over it.” I paused and gently faced Yoochun to me. “Losing someone you love is... the emotions and turmoil… the despair… and the loss… it’s really hard. I’d come to hate everything and everyone that reminded me of my older brother.” I said looking at Yunho with a sad smile. “That was a very dark moment in my life but time had helped me heal… if only a bit. I’m better now, though there will be times that I won’t be okay.”

“I couldn’t really let myself look at or even let myself play the piano.” I continued. “But when I heard you, your music, I just felt drawn to it. Hyung and I had shared music together but I just couldn’t bear to listen or play… he was gone and it just hurts to be reminded of him. But with you it’s different.” I smiled at Yoochun. “Your music gives me strength and it never fails to make me smile.”

“I have you to thank as well, Yoochun.” Yunho said. “It’s because of you that Su is slowly coming back to his old self.”

I felt myself smile at Yunho’s words because they were true. I watched as Yoochun ducked his head in embarrassment but I could see the small smile on his face. Gently putting my fingers under his chin, I lifted his head until I could properly look at him.

“Thank you, Yoochun-ah.” I said.

~

“I’m happy for you.” Yunho said.

I turned to look at him. I knew what he was talking about.

“I’m glad that you’ve finally found someone to make you happy.” Yunho added.

I couldn’t help but give him a sad smile.

“I’m sorry, hyung.” I said, squeezing his shoulder.
“Su, you don’t need to apologize.” Yunho said. “I really am happy for you.”
“I hope you’ll be able to be happy too, hyung.” I said trying to sound encouraging.

Yunho scoffed before bursting out laughing.

“Such a sap.” Yunho said in between laughs. “Yoochun really did change you.” He added before busting in another round of laughter.

I shook my head and just smiled.

~

The corners of my lips automatically lifted the moment I saw Yoochun. He was leaning against a tree this time, headphones in place as he scribbled on his music sheets. I made my way towards him and sat down right beside him.

Yoochun looked up from his work and offered me a smile in greeting.

“Hi.” Yoochun greeted as he took off his headphones.
“Hey.” I greeted back. “How did your composition fare?” I asked.
“Nothing yet.” Yoochun answered. “It’s our composition, not just mine. You’ve helped me lot in completing it.”
“Are you sure it’s okay for my name to be included in your entry?” I asked.

Yoochun nodded with a smile.

“You seem to like hanging out here a lot.” I mused.
“This is the only place where I can concentrate aside from the music room.” Yoochun replied. “It’s also conveniently near my place.”
“You forgot that this is where we also first met.” I added looking around the scattered children playing. “You were sitting on that bench over there. You had your earbuds on and your eyes closed.”
“I remember seeing a group of guys playing soccer.” Yoochun chuckled. “But I was too busy listening to music that I pretty much shut out everything and everyone. Until I got hit by your ball.”

We both chuckled at the memory.

“I didn’t go over to you right away that day.” I confessed. “I actually noticed you while I was running around chasing the ball. You had this serious look on your face that made me wonder what kind of music you were listening to. I was too caught up wondering that I didn’t get to catch the ball that hit you in the face.”
“Ahh, so it really was your fault that I got hit that day.” Yoochun mused.
“Yes, it was. I did apologize if you remember.” I chuckled. “It was just… it’s hard to explain but… somehow, I felt drawn to you. Then I found myself apologizing profusely because I realized that you got injured because of me.”
“I wasn’t that injured.” Yoochun said. “Though my head did hurt a lot after.” He paused as he looked at me and then away as he watched the children on the swings. “Am I… Do I remind you of your brother, Jaejoong?” he asked.

I looked at him.

“Yes and no.” I answered. “I wondered why I was drawn to you at first… both you and Jae-hyung loved music and played the piano. You’re both strong-willed. But Jae-hyung didn’t go through what you’ve gone through…” I paused looking at him. “Whatever it was that you’d rather not talk about.” I added quickly. “I know and feel that there is something that you’re still not telling me but it’s okay. I’ll wait until you’re ready.”
“Thank you.” Yoochun mumbled, staring at his hands.

YOOCHUN

“Thank you.” I said bowing before letting myself out of the music store, a new set of sheets in hand.

I made my way towards the café where Junsu and I agreed to meet up after his practice. I had just gotten a call from our music professor that my composition with Junsu had received recognition. Though the piece didn’t win the top prize, I was told that the judges felt that my work… our work deserved credit. I smiled because couldn’t wait to tell Junsu the news.

“Excuse me.”

I turned around at the voice. A very beautiful man stood in front of me.

“Can I help you?” I asked.
“Hi there.” He smiled. “I’m Heechul from Kyunghee University. I just wanted to ask you about the recent music competition. You’re Park Yoochun, right?”
“Y - Yes, I am.” I stuttered surprised.
“Finally!” Heechul exclaimed. “I had gone to your university to ask for you and you weren’t there. I had to ask around to know where you’d gone. I’m glad I caught you in time. I was afraid that you’d already left when I got here.”

I stared at him.

“Your contest piece.” Heechul continued. “Is the ‘Junsu’ under your co-compositor Kim Junsu?” he asked.
“How do you -” I stammered.
“So it is him.” Heechul confirmed. “You and Kim Junsu go to the same university right?”
“Y - Yes.” I answered. “What do you -” I started.
“Thanks for your help.” Heechul said cutting me off. He turned and left as abruptly as she came.

“Kyunghee University?” Yunho asked. “I don’t know anyone who goes there.”

I frowned but accepted Yunho’s answer. I didn’t tell him who I met a few days before. It still puzzled me why this Heechul suddenly appeared and asked about Junsu.

“Alright everyone.”

Both of us turn our attention back to the class representative.

“So everyone agrees that our project for the university fair will be an auction?” he asked. “Does anyone have any idea on what items we can auction?”
“What about a person instead of a thing?”
“Yeah, that could work.”
“Who do we auction then?”
“Hey, what about Kim Junsu?”

Everyone in class looked at Junsu.

“Yeah! The one who wins the auction can have a ride on his bike.”
“Sorry guys, my bike is off limits.” Junsu answered with a smile. “Besides, I’m not inclined to letting anyone ride it much less ride with me, especially when it’s at a repair shop as we speak.”
“What about a date with Junsu?”

I tried not to laugh out loud at Junsu’s taken aback expression.

“Wait! What?” Junsu exclaimed. “Why me? Why not Yunho? Or Donghae? Or Siwon? They’re the flower boys of this class.”
“Yah! Why are you roping us in?” Yunho complained but his words were without heat. “Don’t forget that you’re one of us flower boys.”
“Besides, I don’t think Yoochun would approve of me being auctioned.” Junsu said trying to get out of the sudden responsibility. “Why don’t we auction Yoochun as well?” he muttered but everyone heard his words.

Everyone fell silent and turned to me. I sat there stunned and wide-eyed.

“I don’t mind.” I answered.

My voice echoed around the room and it took a second for the noise to start again. Everyone cheering loudly in both happiness and disbelief.

“Alright then, so everyone’s agreed that we will be auctioning a day with Junsu, Yunho, Donghae, Siwon and Yoochun.”
Everyone voiced their agreement. Junsu frowned but kept quiet this time.

“Auctioning me off like some antique chair. Is it really okay with you, Yoochun-ah?” Junsu asked a worried tone in his voice.
“I don’t mind.” I answered with a smile.
“What about you being auctioned off with us?” Junsu asked. “Are you alright with that?”

Honestly I didn’t know. I just shrugged at Junsu in answer.
