YOOCHUN
“Is it true that Junsu’s going out with Park Yoochun?”
“I was shocked!”
“Who would’ve thought that Park Yoochun would be able to catch Kim Junsu’s eye?”
“You think that Park Yoochun used something?”
“Like what? A love potion? That’s so archaic!”
“He’s smart. His grades are evidence of that! Besides, he’s best friends with Shim Changmin, a.k.a. genius student.”
“Look at him! He looks so pure and innocent. I don’t think he’d be capable of doing something like that.”
I tried to ignore the words but somehow everything seemed to register in my brain. I almost reacted at the mention of the words ‘pure and innocent’. If they only knew… I am very far from being pure and innocent ever since - I stopped myself and pushed the memories back with sheer will.
I sighed and sat down on an empty desk, resting my chin on my hand as I looked out the window. I blocked out the chatter around me.
Ten minutes later I felt a knock on my desk. I looked up to see Junsu. He smiled as he took the desk right beside mine (again). I nodded a greeting just before his attention was diverted.
“Hey, Junsu, is it true that you’re going out with Park Yoochun?”
It was one of our classmates who had asked the question. Never mind that I was right there within hearing range.
“Yeah, man. I thought you weren’t into the pure and innocent types.”
I flushed and looked away, conscious.
“What did you see in him anyway?”
The question made me look up, my own curiosity getting the better of me. I looked at Junsu, waiting for his answer.
“Yoochun trusts me.” Junsu simply answered. “And he’s different.”
A scoff. I looked away to hide my wince.
“Aren’t you getting a bit ahead of yourself?”
“Yeah, the pure and innocent types are usually the ones who’re obsessed and clingy.”
I felt myself flushing darker as I caught Junsu’s gaze just as he looked at me. He smiled. Somehow, it made me relax.
“How do you know that Yoochun’s obsessive and clingy?” Junsu asked. He turned to me and leaned closer. “Well, Yoochun? Are you an obsessive and clingy boyfriend?” he asked.
Face hot, I looked down but shook my head in answer. I could feel myself flush even darker, all the blood in my body rushing to my face.
“Ignore them, Yoochun.” Yunho said with an exasperated sigh as he took the desk in front of mine. “They mean well… some of them do… but Junsu’s got a big heart. He’ll jump right to your defense if any of those guys try anything.”
“I know.” I answered quietly. “We’re not anything. I’m not even his boyfriend. They just assumed.”
“I thought you liked Junsu.” Yunho said keeping his voice low so only the two of us could hear.
I blushed again, ducking my head. I nodded.
“But I don’t think he feels the same way.” I murmured. “I don’t think he sees me that way. I’m not… I don’t look… I’m not as good-looking as you or him.”
I heard Yunho sigh. I looked up at him.
“You’re wrong.” Yunho said looking at me. “I think you look very handsome.”
“...”
“To tell you the truth, this is the first time I’ve seen my best friend happy.” Yunho said. “Junsu’s been closed off for so long even with the relationships he’s had. You’ve changed him.”
“But I didn’t… I haven’t done anything.” I protested.
“Yoochun-ah, love doesn’t happen just because someone does something for you.” Yunho explained. “It’s all about how you feel.” He paused. “When people look at the two of you, they see ‘Soccer Star Junsu’ and ‘Silent Pianist Yoochun’. But they also see how the two of you move around each other. You guys have a connection.”
Yunho’s words brought a smile to my lips. I flushed, suddenly shy.
“Do you know why I decided to give you up?” Yunho asked.
I looked at him, waiting for his answer. He didn’t speak for a while. Yunho smiled, reminiscing.
“When Victoria took you away, Junsu reacted so fast. There was fear and urgency in his eyes that told me that he had to get to you no matter what, no matter where. I saw how afraid he was that something bad might have happened to you as he ran to find you. I felt like the Junsu I’ve known as a kid was back and it’s all because of you.” Yunho paused. He took my hand in his and squeezed it. “You should take courage, Yoochun-ah.” He said returning my shy smile with his own encouraging one. “And tell him how you feel.”
“Why me?” I asked, my thought voicing itself out.
“Only Junsu can answer that question.” Yunho said. “But he probably doesn’t even know why either.” He chuckled.
“Thank you, Yunho.” I said. “For someone like me - ” I flinched. Yunho had just flicked my forehead.
“You shouldn’t think so low of yourself, Yoochun.” Yunho said. “You’re not just someone. You should never be ashamed of yourself.”

JUNSU
I sat by the window in the music room, looking out the window but not really seeing anything. Yoochun was once again sitting behind the piano, his fingers dancing on the keys. I was surprised, when I found myself walking with Yoochun and going into the music room with him. I hadn’t wanted to be in this room or any room with a piano inside it because it reminded me of what had been. What might have been if things didn’t happen the way they did.
I looked at Yoochun.
But here, with Yoochun playing, I seemed to find myself at ease, calm and pleasantly at peace. I sighed in contentment as I listened to him play.
Yoochun continued to play and tinker with the keys. I realized that he was revising his composition as he furrowed his brows in concentration, pencil scratching away on his music sheets. I stretched, yawning.
“Sleepy?” Yoochun asked.
“Mmmm.” I answered with a shake of my head. “Just relaxed.”
I watched as Yoochun gathered up his music sheets and placed them into his bag. He looked at me with a curious expression.
“Your music calms me.” I said with a smile. It was a simple yet vague explanation but I knew Yoochun would understand.
“Thank you.” Yoochun said returning with a smile.
“Let’s go home.” I said taking his hand in mine.
I looked at our hands still grasped together then my eyes travelled to his face. I smiled. Yoochun looked shy but he looked at me, returning my smile.
Somehow, in the back of my mind, I felt that Yoochun might need me. He might not say it out loud especially when he really does need help. I’ll just have to carefully watch out for him.
I had a promise to keep, after all.

YOOCHUN
“I must be boring you.” I said as I looked at Junsu.
Both of us were at the park, a different one that was just a few blocks from the university. We sat together on one of the benches. I had my headphones around my neck as I straightened my music sheets out. Junsu found me seated here as I worked on my compositions and decided to join me.
Junsu chuckled at my words.
“It’s actually quite fun out here.” Junsu said as he looked around.
“Fun?” I asked.
Junsu smiled and stood up, walking a few steps before turning back to me.
“Look over there.” Junsu said looking to his left. I followed his gaze.
In another bench a few feet from us sat a man, arms folded across his chest, head lolling to the side. It was obvious that he was fast asleep.
“It’s called ‘Blissful Afternoon’.” Junsu said. I laughed. “Yoochun, over here.” Junsu said as he beckoned me to where he was.
Junsu was looking to my right. He pointed to the four ajhummas just outside of a grocery shop. They seemed to be laughing as they talked about something.
“That one’s called ‘Ajhummas Mischief’.” Junsu said with a laugh. I laughed again because the title he gave correctly described them. They looked like they were up to something. Something bad.
“And look over there.” Junsu said gesturing to a man in a suit talking on his phone. The man was bald. “How about ‘Illuminating the World’?” he asked.
We both laughed.
“This,” Junsu began as he pointed at me. “You’re called ‘In Love’.” He said with a smile.
I abruptly stopped laughing and flushed a deep shade of red. But I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. I looked anywhere but at Junsu’s amused grin until I heard him chuckling.
“Come on.” Junsu said taking my hand.
I just smiled and let him lead the way.

We ran out onto the street as we laughed still holding hands. When we were at a safe distance, I stopped and tried to both stop laughing and catch my breath at the same time.
“Ho - how co - could you - hahahahaha!” I gasped out. “Do so - something li - like that?”
“You either do one or the other, Yoochun-ah.” Junsu laughed. “Catch your breath or laugh?”
My sides hurt and I was still short of breath, but I’ve never felt nor had this much fun before. I just smiled at Junsu.
“I guess today is very special.” Junsu said. “Here I am with a person who hardly ever laughs let alone smile yet it’s five times today that I’ve heard you laugh.”
“And whose fault is that?” I asked with a laugh. “You have a tendency to drive people crazy.”
“Are you interested in continuing to be crazy?” Junsu asked with a smirk.
“What do you have in mind?” I asked.
“Let’s spend the night in a hotel.” Junsu answered.
That wiped the smile off my face instantly. Junsu seemed to realize his mistake.
“Sorry.” Junsu apologized. “I didn’t mean it that way. I was only joking.”
I said nothing, avoiding his gaze. Even though I wanted to look at him and see if his words were sincere.
“Umm… well.” Junsu mumbled. “I guess I better get going then. I have work.”
“Okay.” I replied giving him an awkward smile. “I’ll be going to the bookstore.”
I hurriedly bowed and went on my way.
“Yoochun-ah.”
I stopped and turned around. Junsu was looking at me, expression soft.
“I just remembered that I have something to get at the bookstore.” Junsu said. “Mind if I tag along?”
I couldn’t help but smile.
