Ok, calm down for a seccdavismorganAugust 23 2006, 14:47:05 UTC
Number one, Can I please have an actual "what happened to make you upset"? Are you angry that the teacher didn't take time out to talk to you when you dropped Alanna off? Was this an actual open house or was this the first day of school?
Number two, If you are concerned about Alanna's teacher, schedule a parent/teacher conference.
I'll be happy to offer some advice about how to work with the teacher, but I can't when I don't know what is the actual problem.
(side note: I know you are upset, but please don't use profanity in front of your child's teacher. It is a very quick way to get you branded a "helicopter parent" and politely ignored.)

ok this was alanna's Frist day in school
i was at openhouse the teacher was at another school teaching a pm class so when i was to get my info that day thay all said go talk to your child's teacher but she was not thair i see all the other parints with pacits so i find a pile of paper work thair and pick it up go back to frount desk ask what do i do thay say fill out stuff and see the teacher on the frist day every day the kindergarden teachers will want some of your time to talk to you so have 20 mins every morning after you drop your child off .....
I am not a fan of the public school system myself so I understand your anger. The main problem is that there is anywhere from 20-30 kids for 1 teacher. It is impossible to give individual attention to any 1 child with that kind of ratio. So the schools focus on crowd control instead of education. I personally believe that 1 hour in a home or private school is worth the same as 10 hours in a public school for that reason. I am planning to homeschool Adriana because I truely believe I can give her a better education than the public school system can. The right private school might be good too, but I am choosing the homeschool option.

standing out back of the school for 10 mins after 10:45 to pick up alanna i was 15 mins early i get told alanna is on the other side of the school me and all the other parents walk around to the other side and we get told to pick the kids on time and here from now on
i get to say my words to the teacher and i say " i would like to schedule a parent /teacher conference what time is good for you? " she looks shocked and said to me any "time before school is better i teach a pm class at another school " i smile and say " I was here this morn" she goes "umm ya i know i had testing this morning "
long story shorter I get to talk with the teacher tomorrow at 7:30 am
So, let me get this straight; the teacher wasn't even at the school's open house, you can't get any information, and you and other parents should to entrust your children to someone you've never talked to because the school says it's ok

As many of you know, I am a public school teacher. While I know that public schools may not be the "end all be all" of education, I would like to offer some defense

I had no idea you were a public school teacher. I don't even know who you are. I was replying to Roberts post with my own opinions about homeschooling. I am homeschooling my daughter and she is above standards for her age. She is doing extreemly well and is extreemly smart. I have no reason or desire to debate the issue of public vs homeschool with you. I don't have anything against teachers, I think that most of them probobly do the best they can under the conditions presented in public shcool.
