Ok, so really this is a failed experiment for me in that the lighting is too severe and the ukulele is louder than my voice. I filmed this at sunrise on my back porch, thinking that the shadows would look cool. Instead, my already pale skin begins to glow and any wrinkle is magnified by the long shade. So I look like a ghoul, yes, but a ghoul ( Read more... )

I don't disagree with any point and the lighting...wow, that's not doing you any favors at all but that was SO entertaining!

This takes me back to my youth in the coffee shops of Scottsdale of the early 60s with live music. You missed your era!

Hi Judy. Actually I've also been practicing a 60s song by The Vogues: Five O'clock World. Maybe you've got something there.

Thanks. Heh, yeah it's kind of an experiment in how bad lighting can make you look line an animated corpse. Say, that gives me a zombie movie idea... :-)

Very cool. Just curious...how is a Uke tuned?

I suspect there is a non-trivial likelihood that this is the lead in to a musician joke, possibly involving slapstick violence and/or a cat. However, the practical answer is gCEA, with the g string being an octave higher than it would be if the strings were arranged by pitch. Because of that, the top and bottom strings both supply a high note which allows me to do that particular strum.

Haha...no. I was just curious as to how similar the chord fingerings were to that of the guitar.

Ah, well the bottom 3 strings have the same intervals as a guitar, though they are shifted up some. If you play a D chord on guitar it is a G chord on the ukulele. You get into trouble with some of the more complex chords because you have fewer strings to use to get the intervals out of it. If you're going to do a diminished add 9 chord you may have to make some compromises.

Well DAMN! That was FINE!
Really good, Roy, I liked it a lot. Yeah, maybe not the best recording situation, but damn, that was good on the merits of the performance.

Well, I am clumsy, slow, and can't do the same thing twice, so I admire your ability to repeat that same strum so perfectly the entire song.
