But all his recipes require additional ingredients! It would be like having a recipe for say Broccoli Sunday Lunch - you will additionally need carrots, chicken, potatoes and gravy.

It seems pretty clear to me that the comment "come home when you've come to terms with life without an Alessi arse-flosser" wasn't "a reaction to the overall value that we have come to place on branded things" but an expression of general disgust toward Mr Eggers. Then again, I spend at least 200 hours a year playing computer solitaire, so I should probably not be so quick to make comments about extravant self-titillation.

I think the guy with the Alessi whatever was not Dave Eggers. Alessi guy sounds incredibly self-serving but at least he did not pen a memoir half of which was made up of his application for MTV's "Real World."
