I have watched only a little of the Eccleston season and none of the new one (not available to me yet) but just from watching the comments and fic, I've been noticing that most of the new Doctor Who fandom in the Nine and Ten era seems to be more of a Rose fandom. It will be interesting to see how the fandom reshapes itself after Rose. But as you say, change is part of the DW phenomenon and always has been.

It really depends on what part of the fandom you look at whether it seems more a Rose fandom or not. There are definite corners where this is very much true *hasn't looked at Time and Chips since the news broke and is kinda scared to* but they're not all of the fandom.

A lot of new fans that have never seen the show before have especially latched onto Rose -- understandable as she was created as the character to pull the viewer into the Doctor's world. Given that characters leaving on most shows is very traumatic and often affects the show's feel and quality, it can be expected that new fans are going to have loud screams of denial.

But hopefully they'll chill and wait and see that generally DW is one show that does this sort of thing really well.

Just went over to time_and_chips (you knew that I was thinking of that comm) and there's quite a range of reaction, from what I expected (kammgirl: "For me it means I got to enjoy a new show for two seasons and will live on fan fic up until a time when Rose may return") to many people being open to new possibilities.

It's good to hear the latter, that people are willing to give it a chance and wait and see.

Here's hoping that DW pulls off an amazing kickass Companion transition to reward people for their open minds. :)

I've been thinking the same thing. I like Rose, but it's been seeming like her time has been coming to an end this season.

*nods* Exactly. I don't know if that's just how the stories have fallen out or, since they would've known they were losing Rose, they've been deliberately dropping little things into the scripts to help encourage that feeling, but it's definitely there.

Hey, I'm not reading the spoilers but I have a Spn question I thought you could answer. Is the Impala's front seat all on long seat (ie, not broken into two "buckets" so that you can reach between the two front seats into the back seat?)

Even Peri, as obnoxious as she was, really was the perfect companion for Six, and for that season.

Personally, I'll just be repeating to myself "Not another Adric... not another Adric..." for a few months.

I actually didn't mind Adric when I watched his episodes. Of course I was a preteen adolescent at the time so that might have had something to do with it.

I spent much of the time I was watching Peri wanting to bitch slap her into next week without the benefit of a TARDIS. Let's but it this way -- for me, the introduction of Mel was a relief, which will probably demonstrate how much I loathed Peri.

But then they gave us Ace and I forgave the show for many things. :)

I confess, I used to like Adric.

I rewatched Earthshock with a friend to prep them for Rise of the Cybermen.

Friend laughed when Adric died.

I haven't rewatched any of the Adric eps for more than 20 years other than a few minutes of one caught on late night BBCkids. I think I'm happier that way. Let's me keep my illusions. :)

but I'm kinda hoping to get at least a few episodes where it's just the Doctor and Jack (assuming that he is still going back to DW for s3) I'd love to see this. It's my dream, with bells and rings on Jack's toes

I'm finding this series not as captivating as the last as well, although I'm holding out final judgement until I see the whole thing. It's possible the end will have stuff in it that in retrospect make the whole season tie together much more coherently. I see hints that they might be able to do that at least. *fingers crossed*

Two shows with Captain Jack on at the same time would be much with the gleeful, although I don't know how realistically feasible it could be. But I'll settle for just continuing to get a Captain Jack fix. ;)

I hadn't even thought about the "I'm sorry" thing. I'd been thinking it would be something about arrogance and the whole what makes a god question that seems to keep being touched on obliquely.

And Girl in the Fireplace was an *awesome* ep.
