My first plateau...

I know it's normal. I'm at about 3 months and everyone says it happens then, but I stepped on the scale this morning and almost cried when I saw that the number hadn't changed. I know I shouldn't beat myslef up. I'm still doing things right. I'm still taking my vitamins and eating well and getting in most of my water. I'm still getting in some ( Read more... )

I started walking the loop of parking lot at my work at lunch Monday, did it today too, and I hope to do it every day this week, Hopefully it will help.

How long have you stayed at the same weight? A "plateau" that lasts a day or 2 really isn't a plateau. Give it time. Do what you're supposed to be doing. It'll keep going down.

I don't consider anything a "plateau" unless it has lasted more than a month. Seriously, I never, ever lost on a weekly basis. If you aren't losing month over month, then you are stuck. Remember, women have cycles. I went from 164 to 169 overnight last week, now I'm at 164 again. Why you ask? Because I'm female. Even at a stable weight I can only go by a range.

What happens when you have WLS is that it took you so long to get there that you want to be done being fat immediately. The whole fact that you usually have to wait about 2 years to get to your lowest weight doesn't play much into the mind of someone newly post-op. Week over week doesn't matter at all. Where you are in 2, 5, 10 years, that's the important stuff.

Yep. Regardless of how the first few months went, I'd say measuring month over month is a much better and more accurate way to measure your progress.

i plateau for half the month or more each month, then i drop the normal 10-15+ pounds in the other half of the month.

everyone is different. your body WILL keep losing if you keep eating, drinking and walking. i promise you!

don't get discouraged as it will only lead you to bad habits and a self-fulfilling prophecy!

ps - i had surgery 7/30, btw! :)

Thanks. It's just scary. I've been loosing 2-6lbs every week and to not see it this week freaked me out.

I was originally scheduled for 7/30 but they moved me up to 7/27 because my surgeon had a conference to go to on 7/30.

I've heard a couple of things that you should think about. Are you getting in all the water you should be? And how is your protein intake? If you up either or both of them, it may be enough to get you off the plateau. And increasing your exercise will help as well...

Good luck!!!!

And remember, the weight you've already lost is more than you would have without the surgery, maybe you just need a bit of a break?

Thanks, maybe my body did need a little break. I have started walking more this week, If I can keep it up maybe that will work. :) My protein is good at least 60g but usually 70-80 a day. My water isn't up to par, but I keep working on it too. *sipping now*
