My first plateau...

I know it's normal. I'm at about 3 months and everyone says it happens then, but I stepped on the scale this morning and almost cried when I saw that the number hadn't changed. I know I shouldn't beat myslef up. I'm still doing things right. I'm still taking my vitamins and eating well and getting in most of my water. I'm still getting in some ( Read more... )

I don't consider anything a "plateau" unless it has lasted more than a month. Seriously, I never, ever lost on a weekly basis. If you aren't losing month over month, then you are stuck. Remember, women have cycles. I went from 164 to 169 overnight last week, now I'm at 164 again. Why you ask? Because I'm female. Even at a stable weight I can only go by a range.

What happens when you have WLS is that it took you so long to get there that you want to be done being fat immediately. The whole fact that you usually have to wait about 2 years to get to your lowest weight doesn't play much into the mind of someone newly post-op. Week over week doesn't matter at all. Where you are in 2, 5, 10 years, that's the important stuff.

Yep. Regardless of how the first few months went, I'd say measuring month over month is a much better and more accurate way to measure your progress.

I mean, I know weighing every week will happen for most, if not all of us. I still weigh every day. I read the research which shows that people who weigh daily have better averages of maintaining weight loss. I think about maintaining my weight every single day, and I think that is the only way I'll be able to. I know people disagree with that, but I'm only going on the best information I can find.

To clarify, I mean month-over-month in this way. If you start to freak out about your weight this week, go back to exactly one month ago and measure how much less you are than that time. If it is nothing,..than you should worry and make changes. If you are still on track and losing month over month, that should put your mind to rest and show you how you are doing. Does that make more sense? I'm not saying "just weigh once a month". Really, I'm saying, use the monthly stat as the way to measure your progress.

I get it. :)

I couldn't weigh daily because while I know that my body will fluctuate and I'll loose a pound here gain a pound there I'd freak out if I saw it on the scale. Maybe when I am closer to goal I will weight more often...
