Wow, it's Friday already. Huh.

Anyway, I got back from New York on Monday afternoon. I had a lovely little visit with Brittany: we ate some tasty food, visited a couple museums, watched a few movies, and chatted (with a dash of scheming) in between. :)

Fun, food, and 'home' )

food: cookies, getting from here to there, home, food, friends, movies, bryn mawr, places: new york, libraries

I feel much the same way about Philly. I think it's stinky and a little scary, and I would rather live in my beloved D.C., but where am I moving with little complaint? Yup, Philly. It's got a lot going for it in its own way. The food! Oooooo, the food. Oh, yeah, and the boys <3

If you live in Philly, you can come hang out with us!!

Yeah, of the big cities I've been to, Philadelphia ranks only marginally higher than L.A. for cities I just don't like. Like L.A., Phila has interesting museums and things, so it's okay to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there because it's dirty and I don't feel safe wandering around even during the day. I'm all about the Main Line, though. :)

I'm okay in Center City during the day (other than the drug user people at the methodone clinic, but you can generally ignore them), but I don't walk around at night unless Josh is with me, and I try to stay places with lots of people (I lived near City Hall, and then I would walk down Broad Street to get to South Street, so I didn't leave populated areas). I LOVE the suburban public transit system, though. I refuse to get on the subway itself (have you ever walked by a stop? It literally smells like urine), but Regional Rail--like the line to Bryn Mawr you were talking about--is awesomely convenient. If I could move the D.C. urban public transit to Philly and connect it to Regional Rail, I'd be a lot happier there. Oh, and more Chipotles. Definitely need those. One is NOT enough.

Man, now I totally want to go back to Philly and actually eat in the city instead of in Langhorne *lol* Sahara Grill, I miss you . . .

Oh yes, Philly would definitely be better with D.C.'s public transportation system in addition to the Regional Rail. I never tried the subways in Philly *shudder* and I never figured out the bus system either...

And Center City's okay, it's just that, like you said, one doesn't want to stray from the populated areas. I felt like there were fewer main streets I actually felt somewhat comfortable walking along there than here in D.C. And I definitely always made sure to leave the city before dark. My nightlife (on those rare occasions I actually had one) was usually in Bryn Mawr or Wayne.
