The Interview

Feb 28, 2007 20:16

I woke up around 04:00 - it was 08:00 in Dubai and my body was tired of sleeping. For some time, I just lay on the bed with my eyes open, worrying about the interview.

Then Papa and Asif bhai woke up and we went downstairs [through the maze of staircases and hallways] to have breakfast. I didn't eat much because I was worried I'd get really ( Read more... )

Me too, Maria, me too.. it's like my last hope. I don't wanna go to Canada only to have even lesser chances of getting into med school.

It WAS pretty whacky. My father was supposing that the interview is about an hour long or so.. when I corrected this misconception [just one night before the interview, mind you] of his, he was genuinely surprised that we had traveled so far and I had invested so much time for just a 20-minute chat!

You're my rock of hope, mister. Dunno what I'd do without you being there to cheer me up and support me.

It sounds like you did decently. Don't worry about your performance-- everyone gets like that during their interviews. And of course they're not going to look impressed... they've been asking these questions all day and are probably pretty tired. What maybe you should be interested in is all the follow up questions they asked you- that's a pretty good sign you caught their interest.

I guess that's a good reason why they weren't impressed.

I just hope they find it in their hearts to let a needy Indian boy in lol.

Interviews are tough Danu! But remember that it is only a portion of the application process... Use it as a learning experience.

With most British med schools, they're the next step to being selected.. i.e., if you don't do so well on your interview, you have a pretty good chance of getting rejected.

Idk about Medical School in Europe but in the United States it is as hard as they say it is.lol. My sister was diagnosed with clinical depression after enduring four years of med school (and she wasn't even at an Ivy league school; certainly a very good school but not even as hard as the program at UofM my university). But my university's med school is 10 in the nation. Not that I'm interested in medicine. And I'm sure you did fine. Usually these programs look highly on international applicants because international people have unique opinions to bring to the table. I know that's how they think at my University for all their programs (esp law) so I hope its the same in Europe.

Yeah, I've heard about the bad bad treatment of residents in the States.. their endless hours on call and complete humiliation by senior doctors. Poor sister of your's.. that's certainly not the way to make good doctors.

yes, you've described it exactly. However, The United States still leads the world in medicine so we must be doing something right :)
