No clue as to the song, but I read the description of the singer and immediately thought "Have you seen Adam Ant recently?"

You've nailed it--thereby explaining why searching for Depp failed to turn up any such song. (As it happens, Ant has also been promoting a new album, Adam Ant Is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner's Daughter; the song I remembered turns out to be "Vince Taylor", linked in an edit to my post.
