trying to find a film?

I watched a film with my grandfather a few years ago and have been looking for it ever since, with no luck.  It played on AMC, I believe?  Anyway, it was a movie made either in the 40s or 50s, and it was about a woman who was put on trial for murdering a musician while at the opera with one of his students.  She confesses, and explains that the
