What Was That Painting?

My friend bought a painting at an auction for something like $5-$10 and he's interested in finding out who the artist is. It's possible that it was a hobbyist and was no one famous, but he's curious. He thinks this was painted with oils. The signature says "McKeever 1955."

For that price range it is highly unlikely that he has anything of significant value on his hands. It's likely a local hobbyist, has he Googled that last name and year with a keyword like acrylic, oil painting, even the area he lives in, etc?
