Well, I don't know anything about your book, but the Spanish pronunciation of Angel is something like "ON-hell"...

Was it "Falling Angel" by William Hjortsberg? It's the only detective novel I can think of with a guy named Angel, but his name was Harry Angel. I don't remember much else about it, sorry.

The Mocking Program by Alan Dean Foster? The detective's name is Angel Cardenas.
