Question about cooking a whole chicken...

I am considering cooking a whole chicken in my crock. Usually, I just roast them, but the convenience of sticking it in the crockpot just sounds sooo appealing ( Read more... )

The skin browns and crisps when I cook it in my crock pot.

I do this often when I want chicken for soup or salad. It may not have a crispy skin, but it sure is juicy and delicious! Try putting in some chopped onion and/ or celery and herbs in the cavity as well as in the liquid. Pull that cooked bird out and let it cool a bit, then pick the bones and make a juicy chicken salad or some great soup - or both!

You really won't need to use the broiler unless you truly want crispy skin.

It'll definitely be brown enough to look tasty, just like the picture you posted, but the broiler would get it more so, and crispy.

I tried a whole chicken in my crock recently with nothing in it but the bird. It turned out like soup with bones & fat. I hope yours is much more successful than mine was!
