Good for You!

I know people don't usually like to be too political to avoid arguments or offending people. But, the past week or so, I've seen SO many people on my friends list come out and express their opinions or post information regarding the presidential candidates (especially Palin). And I think it's great! I'm glad that people are actually paying ( Read more... )

I'm sick of it. Most of it is rhetoric and makes very little of substance. (See my post about swearing and not having a point ( ... )

I'm definitely up for devil's advocate, as long as it's known that it isn't personal. Just thought-provoking debate ( ... )

I said in another response below a brief sum-up of why I think having Palin as VP would be scary. But, here is a list from MoveOn.org (which is also documented with sources - if you'd like me to post those sources, I can). I figure they articulate it better than I would:

  • Palin recently said that the war in Iraq is "God's task." She's even admitted she hasn't thought about the war much-just last year she was quoted saying, "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq."
  • Palin has actively sought the support of the fringe Alaska Independence Party. Six months ago, Palin told members of the group-who advocate for a vote on secession from the union-to "keep up the good work" and "wished the party luck on what she called its 'inspiring convention.'"
  • Palin wants to teach creationism in public schools. She hasn't made clear whether she thinks evolution is a fact.
  • Palin doesn't believe that humans contribute to global warming. Speaking about climate change, she said, "I'm not one though who would ( ... )

Generally, I do not trust thing that come from such a slanted source like MoveOn.org (I used to be a subscriber to their emails). However, it's awesome that you know of Palin. I admit, neither my husband or myself had known much of her and are still learning things about her ( ... )

I, for one, have no need to demonize anyone... their personal life is their own.

*And* I want to have a life of my own that is not legislated. I don't want my every move monitored, I don't want to be lied to, I don't want to see the earth drilled, I don't want to see young men and women killed in wars I totally don't believe should be, the wolves killed or Roe vs Wade overturned and women's choices made a political issue.

There are things a person believes and represents and fights for that I DO find scary and crazy! You bet... What she wants is scarey!

I certainly didn't mean to demonize either. I was responding to the great response of people's posts about the information that has been coming out about Palin. And I don't even care that her daughter is pregnant or that she has a baby with down syndrome. That is the least of my cares about her. Unlike many people, I knew who Sarah Palin was as soon as I heard she was picked. If you're a member of Defenders of Wildlife, you've heard her name before. The number one reason I think she is scary is her ideas about the environment. Not believing that global warming has to do with humans, support of drilling protected wildlife refuges, advocating and suing to have polar bears removed from the endangered species act, support of aerial gunning of wolves and bears... these are the things I already knew about her. And hearing the rest regarding abortion rights, censorship (re: banning books in libraries), her extreme religious beliefs mixed into politics, and further confirming her stance against the environment and pro-drilling attitude ( ... )

Hear hear... No there was no demonization you displayed. Your point in the original post was well taken.. by me! thank you and we will continue to be outspoken since it's good to stay united in the issues that matter. I am thankful for forums, blogs, websites, youtube, the internet! We are not dependent on mainstream media.. thankfully!

Palin is a great governor, but I don't think she should be in a national office. We don't need more social conservatism after the 8 years we've had. Plus...its a vote for McCain, not Palin and I think a lot of people are forgetting about that. I'm sure McCain was a good senator, and I actually liked some of the things he stands for...but good lord I don't think he should be in office running our country!! ::sigh::

I hope this election season goes for the best. And I hope we don't loose our governor!

I have to agree with you on McCain. I never thought he was the best choice for President to begin with in the times we are living in now. I just can't see how he will bring about the change that I feel we could really use at this point in time, based on his record. Palin added to the mix just makes me even less inclined to support McCain. Not that I was planning on it in the first place, but it does give me more motivation to get involved in trying to register new voters, discuss the issues, and campaign to help avoid having another conservative GOP administration.

My gut feeling says that Palin may end up sinking McCain's campaign instead of helping it. But, I guess we'll see how it goes.

I'd say for once in my adult life I'm actually scared of someone getting into Washington, DC. With most of the crooks you know they're just saying it to get money and power, but with her, she means it, and that's a very frightening proposition.

I agree on everything you've said. I really haven't thought to post much on the current campaigns since I know the majority of my friends list agrees with me for the most part, and those who don't have little rationalization for their political beliefs and are not going to be swayed by little ol' me, they have to learn things for themselves ( ... )

I also took offense to her dig at his role as a community organizer. Every mayor I've met has been lazy, selfish, and power-hungry. Every community organizer I've met has been hard-working and selfless. Also, I thought Republicans were in favor of faith-based charities? Way to cut down your own constituents and shoot yourself in the foot....

Heh.. yeah. At this point, the Dems don't even have to really do much. The McCain crew are doing a good job at hanging themselves without the help.
