Good for You!

I know people don't usually like to be too political to avoid arguments or offending people. But, the past week or so, I've seen SO many people on my friends list come out and express their opinions or post information regarding the presidential candidates (especially Palin). And I think it's great! I'm glad that people are actually paying ( Read more... )

I agree on everything you've said. I really haven't thought to post much on the current campaigns since I know the majority of my friends list agrees with me for the most part, and those who don't have little rationalization for their political beliefs and are not going to be swayed by little ol' me, they have to learn things for themselves.
I don't find Palin as scary as the idea of people actually voting for her, and by that I mean people who aren't even looking at McCain any longer but seem to think she's now running for president (although, with McCain's age and medical history we really do need to consider the probability of her becoming president) I'm also highly insulted by her nomination. All points seem to indicate that she was chosen more for her vagina and her face than anything else. I'm sick of hearing that she should appeal to me, as a female voter in Michigan. I have nothing in common with Palin politically and wouldn't even consider voting for her. I was supporting Obama over Clinton, too. As far as her daughter, unfortunately for her, Sarah has inadvertently made her part of the issue. When such a large part of your political platform is based on invading the private lives and choices of the general public you then put your own private life up for scrutinization. As they say, those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, and if you're running for public office you very much live in a glass house. Her own family has become a clear example of the 'abstinence only' programs that she advocates not working.
I'm also troubled by her belittling of Obama's community leader position. He accomplished a great deal in that role and is an example of what more communities need to help themselves, which Republicans are constantly saying needs to happen. I may also point out that a community leader in Chicago could quite easily take on much more responsibility for a much greater number of people than a mayor of a very small town. (and all without a paycheck or perks)
Of course, this is all beyond the point that McCain, the actual candidate, is scary as hell; an opinion I back with his voting record.
(anyway, sorry for blowing up your journal today)

I also took offense to her dig at his role as a community organizer. Every mayor I've met has been lazy, selfish, and power-hungry. Every community organizer I've met has been hard-working and selfless. Also, I thought Republicans were in favor of faith-based charities? Way to cut down your own constituents and shoot yourself in the foot....

Heh.. yeah. At this point, the Dems don't even have to really do much. The McCain crew are doing a good job at hanging themselves without the help.
