I know people don't usually like to be too political to avoid arguments or offending people. But, the past week or so, I've seen SO many people on my friends list come out and express their opinions or post information regarding the presidential candidates (especially Palin). And I think it's great! I'm glad that people are actually paying

I responded because I had something to say and just for some reason I read your post. Generally, it's my policy to avoid reading and commenting. I made the mistake of reading/seeing two "OMG! Palin is ____(insert expletive). I HATE HER." posts and Yes, they annoy because they have no rational reason attached. They are just 'hate rants' and have NO VALUABLE SUBSTANCE to someone who might geniunely want to read the post and perhaps still be making up their mind as many voters are. It does their party a disservice.
But, yes, generally it IS my policy not to say anything because people are kind of 'crazy' about this election. They seem to have trouble seperating emotion from fact and debate from personal attack. I say this because a comment I made about patriotism in someone's journal led to one of my friends (who was just reading this journal) to ban and unfriend me, even though I delivered the comment in a thought-provoking reasoned way as I am to you. *shrug*

Have you also seen realclearpolitics.com? It's a really awesome news aggregator. It's fun to use in case you ever suspect a poll of having a bias to them, as you can compare it with national averages, and in some cases even get documentation about their methods. :-) Usually I'm never represented anyways, so I tend to just get more of a kick out of the gamesmanship of politics than anything else.

If I were to be truly represented, you'd have to smush together a Libertarian, Green and a pinch of Democrat. Somehow, I just don't think those are easy to come by.

I certainly didn't mean to come off as a hateful mudslinger, if that is how it was taken. I don't hate her as a human being. I do find her to be a negative and potentially frightening choice for VP though.
I hope that by now, this post has been filled up with thoughtful information though. If not, I'm not sure what else to tell you. These are my reasons. Not everyone has to agree by any means. But as I said, I was addressing those who were already discussing the issues.
I would never go as far as to un-friend someone just because they might believe something slightly different than me. Everyone has different things they are passionate about and different opinions on various matters. I'm one for peace. As such, I'd like to remain peaceful in my discussions and dealings with other people too... even if we might disagree. I'd be a hypocrite if I talk of peace and then flip out on someone for disagreeing with me. The whole point is that people of different stripes can live together without flaming each other for their differences. If it's friendly discussion, then I have no problem with it. I hope I didn't not offend in any way. Thank you for bringing it up. It is helpful to be able to round out what I'm thinking in words because I find that it helps me to better clarify to myself where I'm coming from.
