*sigh*

I'm no longer going to Burning Man. I had originally been planning not to go due to the expense and needing to wrap stuff up at work. Then I got an offer to fly in on a friend's small plane on the Saturday of the Man Burn and just hang out for the weekend, maybe 48 hours on the playa tops; my friend had a spare ticket to sell me. I got very excited ( Read more... )

The person with the plane-same or different than nawl's flight-giving benefactor (douglas of santa cruz)?

Damn, I was just thinking about inviting you out for the weekend as well, and be exactly that much too. :(

I'm not going to Burning Man either, which makes me sad for many reasons. Let's do something together that weekend.

Yes. Something other than feel sorry for ourselves. :)

Is the money problem the $200 for the ticket specifically, or everything else on top of that? If it's in the "everything else" category, I could provide you with food, so that'd be one less thing to worry about. :-)

Either way, I'm impressed with you for making the responsible decision. A lot of people wouldn't.

Thanks. Yes, it's the ticket specifically. Since I would've only been there for the weekend, other costs would be pretty minimal, since camp costs are prorated based on length of stay IIRC. Regardless, I'd still love to experience your food porn in person sometime. :)

Ah, well, we're going to have a sort of housewarming type of party soonish. I think carpet is getting installed while we're at Burningman, and after we get back we'll be able to move in the rest of Ben's stuff. There will be plenty of porn-worthy food. :-)

Do you have a moving date set?

No set date yet. "By October 1" is the firm goal, but I'll be up there apartment-hunting at some point in the couple-three weeks leading up to that date.

Oh, this makes me sad.

Maybe it's too late, maybe you'll take this the wrong way, maybe you have other reasons to be responsible, but I could help some. I have money that I have no current responsible use for.

I think it may be too late since I let the ticket go (though he may not have found a replacement yet). I'm tempted, but ... I'd feel really uncomfortable about that. I don't know. I'm torn. Argh.

Sorry to put you in a weird situation. Not sure if I can say anything that would make it less uncomfortable, except that, um, well the offer stands, it would make me happy to help you, and I don't actually expect anything.

Mostly I think money sucks. I appreciate that I have it, but I don't want to worry about it.

I'm in for $20. Life is short. Young people should have fun while they can. (Not that I'm old.... oh wait, I AM! :))
