I'm no longer going to Burning Man. I had originally been planning not to go due to the expense and needing to wrap stuff up at work. Then I got an offer to fly in on a friend's small plane on the Saturday of the Man Burn and just hang out for the weekend, maybe 48 hours on the playa tops; my friend had a spare ticket to sell me. I got very excited ( Read more... )

Is the money problem the $200 for the ticket specifically, or everything else on top of that? If it's in the "everything else" category, I could provide you with food, so that'd be one less thing to worry about. :-)

Either way, I'm impressed with you for making the responsible decision. A lot of people wouldn't.

Thanks. Yes, it's the ticket specifically. Since I would've only been there for the weekend, other costs would be pretty minimal, since camp costs are prorated based on length of stay IIRC. Regardless, I'd still love to experience your food porn in person sometime. :)

Ah, well, we're going to have a sort of housewarming type of party soonish. I think carpet is getting installed while we're at Burningman, and after we get back we'll be able to move in the rest of Ben's stuff. There will be plenty of porn-worthy food. :-)

Do you have a moving date set?

No set date yet. "By October 1" is the firm goal, but I'll be up there apartment-hunting at some point in the couple-three weeks leading up to that date.

Teehee, this juxtaposition of responsible "getting carpet installed" with "being at Burningman" amuses me greatly. It's almost like having your accountant do your taxes while you're at Burningman or something.

Last year I went to Burning Man, with a Google engineer and Google executive, on the Thursday of that week. The Thursday of Google's IPO. The exec was on the phone to his broker half the time. And the many Googlers at BM were doing much the same thing. Hurrah for Brad Templeton's free satellite phone!
