Because just working with someone isn't enough

Jan 11, 2011 09:56

I've been increasingly testy lately, and my fellow roleplayers on Moon Guard are not helping.

I'll be straightforwardly ragey about this:  I hate the institution of slavery.  I hate it with a passion.  What I hate more is people who go out of their way to roleplay a slave--not to explore the question of whether involuntary servitude is a bad thing, ( Read more... )

blatant erper, flagrsp, night elf, ic actions have ic concequences, moon guard is made of fail, you make me sic, terminally screwball, exposition, controversial statement

My issue with it has to do more with how they're butchering Night Elf lore to satisfy their domination fetish ( ... )

This goes too far for "your kink is not my kink." My tolerance has reached its limit on this.

"Slave" has a specific meaning. By definition, it does not involve consent. To be a slave is to be a nonperson. If the word means nothing, then why even use it?

I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but I am all too familiar with how easily people can convince themselves that black is white--just in time to be trampled to death by stampeding zebras. One way of achieving this is to try to change the definition of "white" to include qualities of "black" (which may be a poor analogy, but just go with me here).

For someone to use the same word as "being utterly at the mercy of another person with no defense or recourse" for "my idea of sexytiems"...

...No.

Don't worry. In a few hours, I'll have settled back into my usual dry misanthropy and gone back to not giving a rat's ass.

...And perhaps to not swearing. It takes a lot to make me swear.

Thank you for that insightful and well-thought-out comment. I'm sure we've all learned from it and greatly improved our lives.

Personally I see where this falls a bit under "your kink is not my kink", but there're a couple problems with solely allowing it to fall under that domain ( ... )

Nor would anybody be taking slaves from among their allies; that's incredibly stupid diplomacy.

ESPECIALLY a human taking a Kaldorei slave, given how 'new' they are (by their standards) to the Alliance and how generally xenophobic they tend to be.

That would just be a diplomatic nightmare.

That would just be a diplomatic nightmare.

Considering if Varian was involved or found out? Yeah, I'd say a diplomatic nightmare would sum it up very nicely.

There is a woman from my guild that plays a former slave. The character is a female orc shaman who has lots of self-respect issues and an intense hatred for goblins, as she was enslaved by one. She does a great job of portraying a somewhat timid (for an orc) character that came about as a result of that sort of abuse.
It can be done well.

I was willing to give it a shot when I read the opening quote- its rare it isn't something totally retarded, after all. Stockholm syndrome is a very real thing.

I wouldn't say this is a sue, though.

This falls, imo, under the same category as rape. Its a horrible, terrible act and should NEVER be taken lightly. But people need to realize that it does exist and it does happen.

This person looks like they're honestly trying to play a former slave right. I wouldn't play one, the idea is tiring and honestly pretty overdone and doesn't interest me.

Maybe the underlying reason for wanting to play a character like this is sexual but at least she's not flouncing around with her double F tits hanging out ( ... )

Precisely. Thus, the moment of murloc rage.

I'm torn, being someone who's roleplay scenarios like this is the past. I see your point though, O.P, and why it would be so enraging and have a very different context in a place like WoW's setup then it would say, a fetish community post board, or something similar. I'm very much of the P.O.V that you don't wear your fetish in your description in WoW roleplay, at least not so openly. (I.E a collar or a brand here and there) I mean I'm all for adult play over private roleplay, I'll defend that to the death, but this is a bit extreme, yes. Then again I'm probably going to let my account lapse once more so there you go. Also obligatory "lol Moonguard" >_>
