Grateful
I was caught in a big snarl of traffic on city streets this morning after having been caught in nasty freeway traffic, and up ahead I saw some random woman directing cars to move around her so that two lanes of traffic had to squeeze into one, which was what was snarling things up. So I am at a cafe tapping away at my computer early on a Sunday morning, because I couldn't sleep (don't ask), and out of nowhere there's this skinny young hipster, it's hard to tell how young because of the stocking cap and beard but at least 10 years too young for me, standing politely about 12 inches outside my personal space and saying, "Um, ( Read more... ) -
Library Job!
So, for anybody who hasn't already heard, I have my first real-live paid job at a library! Very part time, and the pay isn't much--but I'm really loving the work, and my coworkers are great, and with a little luck it'll lead to more of the same, only more so ( Read more... ) -
Me and the Frat Boys
Anecdote: I was driving through Berkeley toward the freeway on my way home the other day, feeling purely happy (how often does that happen?) and blasting a mix I made for my son for his birthday. Dreamed I was eating a hamburger, and spiders started crawling out of it. Little yellowish spiders, about the same color as the meat. Naturally I stopped eating the thing. Though at first I had this idea that I could just rid it of spiders.
When I'm dreaming about spiders, or eating meat, it's always a bad sign.

Just woke from the sweetest dream. My son and I were in my ex-husband's back yard getting ready to leave to go somewhere when I heard my sweet kitty Ishtar's voice, approaching from the neighbor's yard. I recognized it at once; she had a distinctive, Siamese-y voice. In the dream she had only been living with my ex since the separation, not dead ( Read more... ) -

My son's friend: My Magic cards got stolen.
Me: Oh no! How did that happen?
My son's friend: My mom put her purse on the hood of the car and someone nicked it. And my Magic cards were in it.
My son: Oh no! Now your mom has to buy a new purse.
My son's friend: No, they found the purse.
My son: Who stole it?

Nostalgia
Suddenly strangely nostalgic for the days when I read "Chicka Chicka ABC" and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See" to my son so often that I had them memorized--and could impress the hell out of him by "reading" them to him, word for word, without looking at the pages at all.
