gullible people

Okay, so why is it that every single person who has ever done any sort of "past life regression" just happens to have been an Atlantian high priest in one of their past lives? I swear, I have enough trouble not laughing at such things anyway, but the next time that someone, in all seriousness, says to me: "Oh yes, I was told that I am a very old ( Read more... )

You're not the first person I've heard this sort of thing from! Yeah. I've noticed too that every one in a past life was someone that was VERY important. Since no one was ever a maid or some sort of care taker, our past (be it ancient or just a few hundred years ago) must have been a very messy, dirty place!

Indeed!
I also get rather suspicious when people are like... "I asked the psychic why I'm afraid of water, and she says it's because I drowned in a previous life, and now everything makes sense to me! It's so amazing that she can see these things!"

I mean, I can't present any evidence to say that this stuff is or is not real, so I can't make a final determination either way... but it's certainly an easy way to separate some people from their money...

I think anyone who has the gall to outright say to someone they don't know that well "Yeah, dude, I'm like, an old soul and stuff" has a few screws loose to begin with. Why do people feel comfortable enough with us to spurt these random whims of fancy? It's like diarrhea of the soul.

True... I'm all in favor of people being open, but at some point it just starts to make you look crazy. Like that guy in CWG who told us about how he talks to praying mantis creatures and trains intergalactic pilots in the 7th dimension.
Oh wait, he is crazy. But he'd probably get along much better if he didn't make that so obvious.

Exactly. I just don't understand how you could NOT see yourself from the POV of the person you're talking to. Anyone who is that un-self-aware probably isn't as in tune as they really thought they were, I'd think.

People also buy into all those bullshit Christian email forewards on the internet that claim things like NASA found a missing day where time stood still that is mentioned in the bible.

often, these are the same types of people.

AAAAaaargh. That's frightening.
I'm not sure which is worse -- the fact that the guy was telling that story to school children, or the fact that adults actually believed it. People's ignorance about the most basic science causes so many problems.

That cut was deep. Nearly nicked a vein. Oh yeah, what's with the word vein. I thought it was i before e except after c. Damn grammar rules.

... or when sounding like "A" as in neighbor and weigh.

It follows the rule. You just have to know the whole rule. Unfortunately, only elite suburban school districts qualify for the whole rule distribution.

And yeah, someday I will get a freakin LJ. Apparently Erin thinks that is going to be right now.

Question things? Are you nuts?

Do you happen to know your Meyers-Briggs type, btw?

Hmm... I know that I did a test ages ago, but I completely don't remember the result. Do you know a link to a good online test?

http://similarminds.com/embj.html is the one I've used in the past. After you finish it I'd suggest going to http://www.personalitypage.com/portraits.html for more thorough descriptions of the various types.

Well, these are my results. I always have such an issue with these things, though, because it seems like my responses to things are very situational -- I have trouble answering a question about how I would react in general. Do you find that your result really describes you accurately?

ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population.

I don't know about that "Guardian of time honored institutions" thing, in particular. This is why I don't often take personality tests. I know what my personality is like, why do I need someone else to describe it to me?
