I just finished reading Timothy Zahn's Allegiance yesterday. The description is way too serious for the hilariously ridiculous comedy of errors that is the actual novel.

If it were ever to be made into a movie, it would star Peter Sellers... as Mara Jade.

I have never read any of Larry Niven's work, though I am now mildly intrigued after having read his essay on Superman's reproductive difficulties.

This is a rather amusing (French-made) video detailing the mission of GLAST. While I think the scientific level was a bit inconsistent (ie, how CsI acts as a gamma detector vs what a gamma ray is), it's still far more attractive than the generally stodgy stuff most US institutions put out (which is one of the principal reasons why I think interest ( Read more... )

Perhaps it's because I'm jaded, but Paprika wasn't nearly as weird as I thought it would be. Not that it wasn't twisted (the anime-agnostic person with whom I was watching required an explanation afterwards), but once all the odd dream-states are taken out, the narrative becomes very linear and simple.
